What was the police speed trap presence like this year on the way / return from Le Mans ? Heavier than usual ?

As I'm heading to the classic which is only a couple of days after the new limits are going to be in place , wondering wether the french police are going to be out in extra force

Only saw a couple of traps, there was a guy with a gun under the sign for the Aire de la Baie du Somme and I also saw a guy in one of the last aires north of LeMans, Harcourt I think.
Came back on the old road and didn't see anything, even around Bernay which is one of their favourites.
Mind you I didn't see anyone speeding either.....perhaps we're learning?

Came back Monday and Rouen/Calais route, did not see any cameras or police at tolls etc. Everyone seemed to be behaving themselves and we had the pleasure of sharing the Rouen tunnel with a 1924 Bentley!

Down Thursday and Back to Le Touquet on Sunday and saw not 1 Police trap. much quieter than previous years. Over all the Police presence seemed right down around the circuit and on Mad Friday - very relaxed and fun Le Mans

1 Police trap on Sunday on our way back, nothing on our way down on Thursday, was really surprised.

We we're motoring both ways at a fair pace, used Waze and it told us all speed cameras, and the one police trap. We did see a guy in a C63s being taken to the cash point at one of the tolls who had been caught by the police man hiding under a sign!

There were more around the circuit and campsites on Friday and Saturday, pretty much muting any 'madness', but to be honest, I thought the en-route gendarmerie presence was far less this year than in previous trips.

Recent years have seen hidden cams, bikes and cars dotted pretty well all along the road from Calais to Le Mans, but the first I saw on way down were at the roundabout in Arnage next to L'Arlequin. Route back was similar, with first encounter being the hidden guy near the top of the peage near Rouen and then the cluster at the Abbeville/Somme end of the second peage where they'd pulled a couple of lads in an C63s AMG Benz and seemed to be forcing them to de-sticker their car.

I wonder if they were all taking their annual leave prior to the 1st July smile

Some friends did get pulled on the D road near Le Theil

On the way back Monday -

Friends saw 4 x Mustangs been taken off the A28 by Police bikes front and back.

Near one of the Peage - saw a Porsche and I think a Maserati been loaded onto Police transport.

Did see a few other speed traps - however the one that sticks out was 2 x people in Camouflage clothing sat up next to the A28 outside Rouen. One definitely had either a very old square video camera, or what looked like a Speed Gun in his hands.

Obviously can't say either way if they were Police, or just somebody whom has access to a Speed Gun (police cars were parked in next service area however)

We always drive down overnight on Wednesday and don't see any Police presence. This was the same this year.

Now we travel in a Motorhome, we now leave around 1pm, park up at the first Aire, and watch the rest of the race and listen to Radio Le Mans. This gets us to the tunnel around 7pm.

What we did see this Sunday, is lots more Police speed traps on the way back. We all commented that this was something not seen before.

At the one of the toll exits, we saw an AMG, Ferrarri and Range Rover being pulled over by a bike. This was in the long queue of Traffic.
Notably, the idiotic White BMW Estate driver that cut in at the last minute would have got a ticking off from the Police, had he not been already engaged in escorting his speeders.

To add insult to his injury his head gasket blew back in the UK.

Only saw 1 police car with a speed gun on the Thursday. I set the cruise control to 140kph and did that most of the way.

Didn't see any on way down and didn't see the guys in camo near Rouen the guys I met at ferry port told me about.

Cautious on way down as Waze and phone (no music either) a nightmare and did get flashed before tunnel as limit came down from 90 to 70 and thought the 70 sign was for an exit.

D338 to near Rouen fine and cruise at a bit over and only 7 or 8 blasts to get by traffic (but as no passenger better to hang along way back to get past trucks etc).

Less cars on road than last time but did enjoy a few blasts on A28 but always cruise at a not too fast level and back off near to tolls. The Liberte tag does get you through without queuing too.

Speaking of tolls - last time and once this time through a normal middle toll (just drive close and stop and then goes green etc) - if you blast away there seems to be a thump above 5 metres from the barrier (feels like a foot long 2 inch gully).

Is it a gulley or does it drop if you blast away?

It was grim on the way home. Police in several areas, hiding a lot and a camouflaged camera just on the exit to one of the services aimed up the autoroute. What I would say is that Waze advised in advance...

I found Waze to be fantastic, totally accurate and certainly saved us getting a ticket at one point.

I went the old way down from Caen and saw not a single speed trap either way, the odd marked camera but that was it
Mind you I was being mostly sensible so not much chance of being done

Had a few cars go by me, one was a french registered Ford Focus RS in a lime green and Black Spoiler, I saw him being escorted through a gate barrier by two cops on motorcycles.

At the Toll booth I was pulled over for a routine stop, driving licence and insurance, but they really just wanted to see the car, which was no problem at all, I obliged getting them to sit in the car and have their photos taken, then we all shook hands and I continued on my way. I was asked to leave quickly, so I did (leaving a 10mtr set of elevens). Honestly we were grinning from ear to ear for the next few hours. driving

I was looking closely at some of the bridges, a few people were waving, I kept slowing down when I saw people, then dropped it down a couple of gears and gave them a short sprint, being mindful of the 130 kph limit.

I didn't see the camo guys and my passenger was not much help being asleep half the time!

We saw that and were just under 130 as a result.

An M4 that had hurtled past us about 5 minutes earlier was chatting the Gendarmes at the Peage a few km later.
