I normally respect and agree with most of what you say. That said the assertion that DJs career is on the downturn based on “biz chat”is a cheap get out. If you know something we don’t then share it.
On the subject of his films. I’m no fan in fact I’ve probably only seen a very small percentage of his movies. From what I see, he turns up and basically plays himself in every role. Not exactly Daniel Day-Lewis. His films are though in my opinion fun and enjoyable, brain out stuff. Exactly what 90% of cinema goers are looking for. Sure he had a couple of less successful films recently, but that’s really it.

Anyhoo, back to Shazam. The trailer looks like it could be entertaining, but DC really need to pick a tone and go with it. The DCEU is becoming less coherent with every new film.

Sure, that's fine, and I'm not trying to be dodgy, I must have watched around 30 yt videos over the weekend, mostly by GRace Reynolds (she's a creator/reviewer, insider) and she seems to have a very detailed appreciation of the comic world too. I also don't wanna make this thing about Rock, but in a few of her vids she points out the issues around Rock/Black Adam, again, these might all dissolve into the ether if things go right. Im a fan of the Rock!

I watched GRace's video on just the shazam pic, then the breakdown and reaction vids of the trailer. I went from thinking, this looks so crap to hey, this actually looks pretty good, and different. I think the DCEU as it was originally conceived has finished, it can't be a competitor to MCU, they've screwed it, but it can work in a different and creative way. Shazam, it's like a goofy comedy, Joker , it's like a horror. It sounds better to me than the formulaic stuff that JL would have led to if it had been a success.

Going to a preview screening on Wednesday, looking forward to it. Between that and watching Us tomorrow I think it's going to be a good cinematic week.

Weird how these things work out, two Captain Marvel movies released within a few weeks of each other.

I'm an Odeon Limitless member, they do three or four preview screenings a year for members. Last year they did a secret screening (as in you didn't know what it was going to be) of Ant Man and the Wasp before release.

A preview screening 10 days in advance is very reassuring as it means the studio/distributor is very confident of their product.

I went to see Shazam! last night and whilst for me it was 'fine' I do appreciate what WB are doing with the DCEU now. We already have a sprawling universe (MCU) that is restricted by a need to cross the streams regularly, whilst that's fun in itself it does mean we're never likely to get anything really out there (a horror or a full-on R rated comedy, for example).

The DCEU movies don't have that shackle so it's not going to be jarring when we get a different actor playing Batman or Joker, or if they decide to really try some out-there ideas. Aquaman may be in the shared universe but the movie is by no means defined or restricted by it, same goes for Shazam. Aquaman made a ton of money so audiences seem happy enough with that approach.

Having said all that it's worth mentioning that Shazam is nowhere near, say, Deadpool in terms of tone, in fact Shazam and Aquaman could easily buddy up and that wouldn't be anywhere near as incompatible as the trailers for each individual movie suggest.

Saw this tonight. Went in with very low expectations but enjoyed it. The trailer does no justice at all to the overall tone of it.

I saw this yesterday and really enjoyed it. It did feel a bit too long especially in the end battle. I quite liked how it was relatively low stakes compared to a lot of hero movies.
My only negative comment is how so much of it was ripped off from other similar movies, but it’s not the first and won’t be the last to do that.
Also Spider-Man called. He wants his end credits back.

Saw it last night too and really enjoyed it. Best DC movie yet in my opinion. Good plot and action and with plenty of laugh out loud moments and the superman cameo at the end was an nice touch . Agree with the above about the Spiderman esq end credits. Alsio stay for the end credit scene, so many people up and left as soon as the credits rolled.

Watched it. It was most entertaining. Best DC film since NOlan's stuff. Bit of a fresh air and I like smaller films like this, I also like that even though it had a fairly fluffy feel, it had some grim moments in there. Reminded me of an older film, and after watching Grace's review, I can see the Gremlins/Indiana Jones reference. Pretty darn good film.
Don't really know the main actor, but apparently he is just his regular shtick?

Also filmed in Toronto and they didn't try too hard to hide it, so that pleased me.

The screening I was in was busy for a sunday afternoon matinee, and there was plenty of laughing a long.

I wouldn't bother waiting for the second credit scene.

saw it last night on the Cineworld 270 screen (a gimmick, but definite possibilities) and really enjoyed it.

Shazam! is very much (IMO) in the vein of 'Big' (for those of us of a certain age). Chuck is brilliant as the titular character trying to come to terms with being a 14 y/o in man's body. Some lovely/silly lines giving chuckles ("touch my staff!" "Urrgh gross!") and indeed laughs. ecent SFX - I'd agree that this is the best realised of the recent DCEU films
