New Fifth Gear 2018
Discussion
What we have this week is a hot hatch showdown and a raft of PC correct presenters. Could have made more of this, it's a little formulaic.
Fitting carbs to a Golf Mk II GTI - who is that aimed at?
Similarly a pickup that costs more than £42k.
Johnny is doing a rerun of the Jackie Stewart and James May drive faster tuition but God, I find Johnny boring.

What happened this week was pretty much a re-run of the Impreza where he fits the no-name front mount intercooler kit but ignores the fact it will have made little difference without other supporting mods / ecu map, etc. Plus the fact he also fitted a dodgy cone filter, that looks like it came straight from eBay, that will probably have made airflow worse

Twin 45 Webers on an 8v Golf GTI? It'll just suck hot air in as they're above the manifold. Doubt he gained anything.
But, but, but, didn't you see the clip of him driving the car on the road after he fitted the carbs? - He gained "the noiiiiiiiiisssssssseeeee" and as we all know that's got to be equal to at least 50bhp I really don't find Fifth Gear that interesting and never have. I drift into it from time to time, watch two or three eps and then don't bother. There's usually maybe 15 mins of each programme that's of interest and then the rest's pointless/dull or just plain "join us again after the break" filling time. I really wish they'd condense these programmes instead of theoretically dragging them out to an hour. 45 mins would do it or better yet 40. It would keep viewers more interested.
Anyhoo, it's fairly harmless and it's no bad thing that we currently have three car programmes available. TGT may be overly familiar now but it's still easily my favourite of the three. It keeps me awake. TG and FG tend to make me relax a bit too much...........

I’m on virgin media is there a way to watch this on catchup do you know.
https://www.questod.co.uk/show/fifth-gearThe final repeat is broadcast on Sunday - Virgin 172, 173 (+1), 217 (HD).
A little bit better this week, but still feels a really old show.

I suppose O'Sullivan is there as a 'man in the street' opinion
His association goes back to previous series if I remember correctly, didn't they used to do a feature where 'stars' were looking for a new car & they tested them as part of the show?God knows why they need so many presenters, 3 of which are racers?
Save some cash on them & spend it on the rest of the show.

Probably better to watch on catch up. It skips most of the adverts and cuts the programme down to 42 minutes.

If we all used that approach no new free to air shows will be produced. Channels need advertising or subscription to survive. Except the BBC ofcourse A little bit better this week, but still feels a really old show.

I guess they've done their own sums and know what works.

Is Johnny Smith the Rory Reid of 5th Gear ?
Having seen more of Reid via YouTube. I'm warming to him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RCFfThqbe8
Hes quite laconic, so he fills the "James May" role nicely. I actually think its more than the script writers don't give him anything decent to work with. They try to make him high energy and bubbly, but that's not him by the looks of it.
Hopefully he can have a bit more say in future scripts and become his own man.
Smith is also quite laid back, but I can imagine him having more conversations about carb needles. Great if you're into it. But perhaps too much geek for TV.
