I'll be sad to see him go. I enjoy the Chris Evans breakfast show and I can't see it being any better with any of the suggested replacements at the helm.

Definitely this. I used to listen to him in the earlier days but found his increasing narcissism incredibly irritating. Top Gear didn't really help my opinion of him either.

Hilarious to see his quote 'you've got to shake it up' before the announcement that his next job is exactly the same as his current one, presumably for more money. Good riddance.
yes

And there was me thinking all that 'keep on climbing' stuff was a hint at a new, brave project. Instead it's a retrograde step, reducing his exposure drastically (but probably for more money) because his ego can't take the criticism. If he'd just decided to retire and pass the baton, citing his growing family I would have seriously respected the decision.

Just wondering how long it will be before 'TFI Friday' re-re-launches.
Yeah, that would fit his Ring Cycle, or perhaps Ringpiece Cycle would be more apt. I think that after his TG disaster he has finally realised that he is nothing more than a one-trick pony – and not a very good trick at that.
Maybe the BBC will actually do something radical and bring in someone new. Or at least promote someone from within their wider network, as suggested above. The cosy and apparently inviolate cabal of BBC 'DJs', or presenters as they should perhaps be known, desperately needs a big dose of disruption. Or a shake-up, as Evans might have put it without a hint of irony. 'Some of us are mountain climbers'. Bluurggh.

Off (again) to Virgin Radio.
I guess the reason for him going worked (as it did last time) as I had no idea that Virgin Radio existed, I thought it got rebranded to Absolute and that was that.

Mayo with the old team back together would be ace - but not as ace as not messing with a winning formula in the first place!
Naa, it'll be a woman, nobody will listen, ratings will plummet, BBC won't care one jot.

I've long since ditched Radio 2.

Chris Moyles? getmecoat

I liked him on R1 (don't have DAB in the car so no Radio X).

Completely agree. I liked him at the start, but he slowly started to grate. After TG he just annoyed me, so I switched to local radio (The Breeze - playing your relaxing feel good favourites). Sara Cox could tempt me back though.

This is the man that ruined Top Gear we are talking about, he certainly isn't funny.

Simon Mayo (without the awful Whiley) would be the best choice I think. I don't mind Sara Cox either though.

Just a guess:

Evans' Agent: "Hello, BBC, it's time to talk about Chris' next contract. How about a cost-of-living-with-15-Ferraris increase of 15%?"

BBC: "Are you mad? In this climate? His next contract is sub £1m, or nothing. And he needs a female sidekick with equal billing."

EA: Click, brrrrrrr..... [dialling noises] "Hello, Virgin?...."

Very very likely.

Next will be Norton which is a crying shame.
If people don’t like Evans switch off simple - 9 m listeners proves he has the draw

I really hope so.
Why? The airwaves are already overrun with Professional Northerners.

Look at 6 Music.

Cox wasn't exactly popular on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, and lost over 1m listeners in her brief 3 year stint.

Sounds like an ideal replacement for Evans.

He must have a good agent, that's all I can assume..

Been wondering what all the fuss was about since he turned up on Radio 1 Sunday Afternoons all those years ago.

No need to switch off, plenty of other radio stations are available.

Mayo and the old team would be good, however knowing the BBC it will be Woman/Tranny /Disabled or a Minority. If they can hit all of the mentioned then they have a jackpot.
