Captain Marvel - March 2019

If Marvel/Disney aren't pushing an agenda with this movie, the MSM certainly are already.

Is it just me that thinks we'll never have full equality of any sort until we can have movies (or other things) where such things aren't shouted from the roof tops everytime? Just make a good movie and film goers won't give a toss about whether the lead is a women/black/trans or whatever. It won't even register.
For me, we had strong female leads in older films without the fanfare and announcements about them (Leia, Sarah Connor, Ripley etc). So, have they inadvertently taken a step backwards by feeling the need to force the issue/agenda the whole time?

It shows in the barely making any money results ala Gjhostbusters, Oceans 8 etc. Eventually they'll get it, until then just grit your teeth and wait for it to stop.

Personally, I'd have preferred a Black Widow origin story out the gate first, which may happen, but it'll be about 7 years later than it should have been.
At the start, you can blame the head marvel guy for that, perlmutter I think, he was a right ahole. Then the ground shifted, but there's some sort of niggles between Scarlett and the mcu I think, she may have nixed it herself with her own actions, this is what I think beyondthetrailer has said in the past, can't recall though, I've absorbed too many videos.techguyone said:
I find it hard to get past the name... (yes I know it's an alien mar-vell) still seems a bit...

ahh Charlize, what could have been
I’m trying to avoid trailer breakdowns and plot speculation before seeing the film. (“Good luck with that.”)
However I couldn’t resist skimming through this thread.
I’m going to break my own rule and engage in the SJW debate.
I generally agree that character should stand or fall on their own merits, not because of gender or race. But there is also room for films to occasionally say something on the topic, even a mainstream blockbuster.
The comic book history of Carol Danvers makes her a almost the prototype SJW poster girl.
In the late ‘60s she was just the ‘love interest’ of the alien Captain Marvel. This was when female superheroes in Marvel Comics had ‘feminine’ powers that meant they generally didn’t engage in the usual face punching.
In the mid 70s she was turned into the superhero Ms Marvel. Not ‘miss’, the name itself was an acknowledgment of the feminist movement at the time. Her powers meant she spent her time punching and kicking bad guys in the face (as well as taking a good beating in return). The stories were written by Chris Claremont, who was known for having strong females front and centre, in complete contrast to what Marvel had done up to that point. (There’s an argument to be made that his female characters were too masculine.)
A few years later other writers treated the character poorly, having her fall in love with a bad guy that abused and impregnated her.
Chris Claremont stepped in again, turning her into a survivor after having powers and memories stolen (metaphorical ‘rape’). Then giving her more power than ever, making her ‘cosmic’ level, well above any Avenger we’ve seen in the MCU.
So, what I’m saying is that it would not be a big shock if they take a character created in a response to feminism and used her as the 21st century equivalent.
I have no problem with that, so long as they make a good film.

If Brie Larson is so powerful how come she couldn't escape from Room
On a more serious note getting a bad vibe from this movie. Saw a snippet from a trailer and all it seemed to consist of is Brie Larson looking smug. Hope that Marvel haven't gone full SJW on this one. The media campaign is starting to sound similar to past failed movies.

I went looking for this thread and then saw you'd posted!
Grace Randolph reckons she's decent when she is not trying to be RDJ in some scenes. Her non-spoiler review is up. THis vid popped up as well. Personally I'd prefer an Endgame with a dab of CM, not too much.

Using Stan Lee's Twitter to promote the film does seem a bit on the ghoulish side

I think the film will be good although all the crap surrounding it has put a bit of dampener on my enthusiasm somewhat. Why not make the best film you can with a strong female lead and just let it speak for itself? Once the film is out, if it's any good it will do the job of promoting women just fine on it's own and a few subtle soundbites can then be added to enforce the message.
Why it's felt all this pre-emptive SJW rubbish is needed is beyond me. When will Disney\Hollywood learn to shut up and stop trying to force feed us this crap?
