How many actors have become well-known for truly iconic rolls in more than one film franchise? I don't want to include the Marvel/DC stuff as (a) they're not really iconic and (b) there's so many of them. Let's kick off with the few I could think of, off the top of my head:

Harrison Ford: Han Solo (Star Wars), Indiana Jones (Um, Indiana Jones)
Silvester Stallone: Rocky and Rambo
Clint Eastwood: The Man With No Name, Dirty Harry
Christopher Lee: Hammer stuff, Star Wars prequels, Lord Of The Rings, and probably a lot more
Sigourney Weaver: Ripley (Alien), and (pushing it) Dana Barrett (Ghostbusters)

Over to you...

Arnold Schwarzenegger - Terminator, Conan, Predator, Total Recall, Expendables. I suppose TR was a reboot rather than a full blown franchise.

Vin Diesel F&F franchise, XXX, Ridick and Groot in Gaurdians of the galaxy. Albeit in voice only and very limited dialogue

I wouldn't call Matt Damon's role in Oceans "iconic". Same for Caine in Batman.

Good question, but we need to consider the definition of a Film Franchise.

[quote=Wikipedia]A film series, film franchise, movie series, or movie franchise is a collection of related films in succession that share the same fictional universe, or are marketed as a series.[/quote}

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_series

For me, it's three or more, so for now, Bad Boys doesn't count, although in about 16 months it should...

Tom Cruise:
Mission impossible vs Top Gun & Maverick (in filming).
Also Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Colur of Money & Cocktail are basically the same franchise. Brilliant but flawed talent overcomes the odds and gets the girl, with a bit of running thrown in.

Burt Reynolds
Cannonball Run & Smokey & the Bandit

If TV counts how about William Shatner
Stark trek & TJ Hooker smile

Orlando Bloom was in all the LoTR and Hobbit movies, and a lead in the Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise too.

I don't think of him as a Franchise guy like Harrison Ford though...

And I really meant that the actor would reprise their role throughout the franchise, so for me examples such as Christian Bale in Terminator and Arnie in Predator don't work. But some good ones here! It's noticable that things don't get much older than the 70s, I guess we simply didn't see so many sequels before then.
