Star Wars - The Mandalorian
Discussion
I wrote a post with spoiler tags to explain what I think is going on with Episode 3 but I will tone it down.
If you watch the Rise Of Skywalker and read the book you will watch the Episode like a joyful child.
If you read the Aftermath book trilogy as well, you might have melted into a puddle whilst watching it.
Does that Tie Interceptor squadron belong to Thrawn? Were they launched from the Chimaera?

The actual Mando bits were fine, just very short. The sudden lurching to a different storyline in another location is what is jarring many people.
But it's not a different storyline, the Empire in exile (Moff Gideon) bit has been going since series 1. We don't know what happened to him, they were talking about not knowing when the ex-empire ones were sitting at the table. If it is him, or the other one mentioned in the Ashoka episode.FourWheelDrift said:

Half the runtime was spent on two characters I’d completely forgotten about. Now, if this pans out into a nice little plot arc then I’m fine with it. If not, then we had a filler episode.
There is zero chance this isn't part of the wider story arc. Just have them get caught at the station or on the train?
Ah. They needed to see what he would take from the lab. You might say.
Well if that’s the case wouldn’t it have been better just to continue to use him rather than what happened?
Anyway can’t be long before the big unveiling of GAT.

I've put in spoilers as am not sure what the rules are with when to discuss freely.
I thought it was more than Elia knew they couldn't raid the ship's labs without getting caught, so brought the doc in as a patsy so she could fit something in her pocket as everyone was focused on arresting Pershing.
Although Pershing's seemed to have an obvious twitch / tell when lying (pulling of the ear) so I do wonder how much of what he had said until that point was true.
I thought it was a good episode to be honest, the idea that star wars series are just for kids doesn't really add up. I think they're targeting the shows at the adult fans and at a level an older kid may like, but they're not the key audience.
Disney are clever with the marketing and both my nieces love Grogu - despite never actually watching The Mandalorian.
when GL did the prequels, that was the star wars universe's decisive moment - he aimed it at kids , but the very very vast majority of fans were now adults and wanting something more adult.
aiming at kids is fine if done well, but GL didnt do it well, i mean fart and poop jokes and jar jar!!! while trying to tell a story of a kid becoming the evil baddie in the universe and the downfall of a democratic government by subversion and a 1000 year old jedi knight institution thats grown fearful of change.............. what was he thinking..................

Agreed, but the whole arc could have been much more condensed without losing a single thing.
Just have them get caught at the station or on the train?

I don't think it is possible to know if it could have been condensed or not without knowing the full arc but I think we learnt quite a lot: the amnesty program was introduced, Moff Gideon was brought back into this arc, there was a lot of mirroring of the menial tasks and labour we have previously seen from the enemy in various ways, some tech is being used 'rebranded', there is obviously a lot going on with Elia that isn't clear (2 double crosses at least). I think it is likely all of these elements are important. With the mixed aged audience it is important that everyone can follow what is going on. Just have them get caught at the station or on the train?

The Dr was just a vessel for all of this. We didn't need to see what he was going to take.
