High end road ( super ) bikes are getting a bit pricey

I’d be shiznip scared to ride the thing. Imagine seeing that bounce down the road, disintegrating into a pile of CF shards.

At that point it is a status symbol, and nothing more.
Well i'd say it's a top of the range bike AND a status symbol. It's just the bike equivalent of a ferrari/McLaren/lambo Except a lot cheaper
If someone can afford it though why not. I'm sure my bike is unnecessary for my ability (it definitely is) but I feel good riding it so I ride more than I used to. So it's worth it to me - though I could get 3 plus change for the price of this one
The super car analogy is how I see it too. I’m still on my first (£1k new). Had it for 3 years and now want to upgrade. I used our Majorca holiday to try out a Giant TCR for a few days but was also tempted to hire a Pinarello F10 for 1 day (although the dates didn’t work in the end and wasn’t exactly critical)
No interest in buying an F10 as I) I’d probably get laughed at (a lot) and ii) would be paranoid at every cafe about it being nicked. But can’t help being curious about how different a £10k bike is to ride.

An awful lot of money for a very dull spec!
Best way to look at these 10k and upwards bikes however is that if it were Motorsport then this would be similar to being able to buy this coming years F1 Mercedes/Red Bull/Ferrari exactly as raced (or close to it).
They are a way for manufacturers to show what they are capable of and demonstrate what will one day be available at a more reasonable price.
Mad though.

But unlike supercars these bikes aren’t necessarily faster than your £1000 bike even if they look and sound fast. Living and riding on the Wirral you see a lot of these top end bikes people have a lot of disposable money for their hobbies. I don’t mind being overtaken by someone on a £5000+ bike and trying to keep up with them.

That's how I look at it as well. I will never own Hamilton's car, but I can own Cavendish's bike. Give or take.BoRED S2upid said:

Law of diminishing returns - granted - but they are.Whether it's aero on the flat, light weight / stiffness on the climbs or frame quality / handling dynamics on the descents - more money will get a faster bike.
GCN compared a 1k Canyon with a 5k Aero Canyon and found as much. As have my own upgrades (I'm honest enough to take purchase justification out of the equation).
On the same road, by 3k Aero Felt is a lot faster than my 1k Bianchi Via Nirone. Will my *cough*k Oltre XR4 Disc / Di2 be faster than my Felt? No idea but jeeze it's pretty and it was a heart purchase not a head purchase
I'll feed back when it arrives.
If you're a good enough a cyclist to do justice to a £10k bike, someone will give you one.
I liked the analogy earlier that you can't own Hamilton's car, but you can own Cavendish's bike. It's a good point, well made.
I personally have no problem with £10k+ bikes, each to their own. Just because they're available, doesn't mean they're selling many of them.
I used to play the "What bikes would you buy with £10k" game with a mate over lunch, and it nearly always involved a decent enduro-road bike, a half decent TT bike, a load of Isla-Bikes for the kids as they grow up, and the rest on bits and bobs, mostly from Rapha.

This is exactly my rationale for wanting a new bike, and being bored of my current one. Yet apparently I am a c--t for thinking this. It's just the bike equivalent of a ferrari/McLaren/lambo Except a lot cheaper
