2002 Range Rover 4.4 i Auto box problem

Rangie is normally fine but just got back from long run and now the following is happening..purrs along fine in top gear but as soon as the revs die ie at a STOP SIGN OR ROUNDABOUT. I
the engine revs high and it just crawls along very slowly until it reaches top gear and then its fine again.tried putting it in manual but it just goes straight to 5 on the clock cannot engage any lower gears,any help would be brilliant
