My local AM dealer is selling an Interstate non AGM battery for v8v for $275. I found an Autocraft AGM battery for $195. The tech says for our cars, AGM does not really matter. I've always thought AGM batteries last longer. Thoughts?

Also, does the brand of the battery matter?

As car does not have start stop tech an AGM is not needed. They may have higher capacity.

When I replaced mine I bought non AGM. All well. Bought a quality non premium brand (British one called samson) with decent statistics.

AGM are safer for fitment locations which are inside the vehicle cabin, such as ours, as they are gel filled so don't produce hydrogen gas in the same way as original wet cell battery types.

Also if you are unfortunate enough to end up overturning the car, an AGM battery will not leak sulphuric acid down the back of your neck.

Do you need dealer to clear settings? Dealer says they clear previous settings out after they install the new battery, but I don’t think AM are like German cars where you have to register them.

No clearing necessary, just swap batteries. It is a good idea to put the car on a powerpack or other supply while you swap batteries to maintain some volatile memories like window modules, misfire correction, radio stations, but you need to be careful then that the live plus connection of the battery does not touch anything - very careful!
