Hi chaps

I'm just looking for opinions here

I've come across a lovely 993 Coupe with 58k miles and FPSH.

One fly in the ointment for me is that 3 years ago the odo stopped working and a new one was fitted by an OPC - all documented with paperwork etc but the new one was not adjusted (if that's even possible or common practice) so now it has a reading of a few K miles on.

The car comes with the original failed ODO in a box.

So I have no concerns on the legitimacy of the miles etc but worry this might be off-putting to buyers when I come to sell it in years to come.

Would this put you off if you were a potential buyer?

Also is it actually possible to wind on the miles (if I were to buy it) so it all reads correctly again?

Many thanks in advance

I would not be concerned about it on the basis that you have all the documentation etc

It is standard practice NOT to wind the miles on. And a new speedo would not bother me but, when I had one replaced in a 2 year old 968 it definitely put buyers off. Make of that what you will.

If its the car you want and its a good one get it,its common porsche practice with the miles.
Its no effort to get the mileage adjusted on your later one.

It's not uncommon for the plastic cogs in these to go. They can be repaired but an unkowing owner taking to an OPC would end up with a replacement. The fact the owner did it the most expensive way and properly documented by Porsche would actually reassure me ;-)

It will put some off for sure but only you will know how much that matters

I saw the grey one at charles ivey a few weeks back and think it represents quite good value at 45k just in case you were considering a bunch of them

My last 3.2 Carrera had a difference of 16k miles due to a speedo change.

It was all documented and the owner highlighted the higher mileage and showed me the docs. I bought it as it was in great condition.

I can see people may be put off a 2 year old car, but at 20+ it's not uncommon and good cars are getting harder to find.

Tanks for the feedback chaps

I think if i go for it then I'll send the OE speedo off the a company Ive found, have it fixed and adjusted to show the current mileage.

I just like things to be right and that would bug me

Hi just send old unit to Speedy Cables in South Wales.

They fix all of my customer cars, with no problems, just they are always very busy.

We had the same issue with my old mans 993. Speedo & odo were replaced by the OPC for new items with zero mileage showing. We've not had the new one corrected, just maintained all the support documentation when it was changed.

Personally I would leave as is as you have proof with the old speedo unit. Also you need to be conscious that the MOT history will show the mileage according to the speedo (was the case on my Ducati 748 when the speedo was broken and replaced).

Therefore any future purchaser looking at the car without that info may think you have had a year of doing mega mileage
