I quite liked it, looking forward to more.
Bruce Maddox, blimey, that's a very specific callback, but a welcomely apt one.
Agreed. Loved that and watched The Measure of a Man straight afterwards. Bruce Maddox, blimey, that's a very specific callback, but a welcomely apt one.
And I loved this - was at a gentle pace and sets things up nicely. But one a week? Not sure how I'll cope with that one...
I've not watched any trailer (except maybe the very 1st one, can't remember) so I've come into this quite fresh. Whilst I'm a little pissed at him trying to foist his politics on us I have to say that he has a magnificent voice and the dude can act.
This new series had me pulled in right from the start and I couldn't believe how quickly it was over. There is one MASSIVE complaint though....
Got to wait for a week for E2

Am I missing something? Is there no 4k version on Prime?
It's not in the 4k section and the episode click is not playing in 4K/UHD?
It's not an Amazon original, they just bought the international rights. It's done by CBS in the US who, AFAIK, don't do 4k/UHD content on their channels. It's not in the 4k section and the episode click is not playing in 4K/UHD?

Lol she had an actual cloak, not cloaking tech. where'd you get the cloaking tech from?
By watching the show and listening to the words? Was Picard insinuating she was still alive? I got the impression that the Romulans just came in and cleaned everything up before the authorities got there.

Had mixed feelings about this, as like it or not Patrick Stewart is rather old now and I thought that might translate into a rather plodding show. Couldn’t have been more wrong - an excellent opening, now I’m just concerned they won’t be able to maintain the quality throughout the series.
Can’t wait for the next one!

Really enjoyed this. It's not TNG but it's not trying to be, which is fine with me as long as it respects TNG enough to be a clear continuation of that universe, which so far it is.
This very much, I’m glad it’s not the rose tinted perfect world of TNG, but am glad it still feels like the same canon. Looking forward to the other old faces coming in.ChocolateFrog said:

Perhaps he knows she's still alive because she could alter the surveillance because Data, as seen earlier.

Hmmm.
It was ok. It felt like watching a TNG film; same characters, yet somehow distant, not quite right.
The nostalgia was nice but it's regressive and backward looking, not boldly going where no one has gone before. It felt a bit old hat as a result.
But then again I have no idea who Maddox is and certainly couldn't name a single TNG episode let alone one that he appeared in. Perhaps I'm just not dedicated enough.
I'll obviously stick with it and I'm sure I just need to reset my expectations. I also look forward to reading back this post in a month or two's time and thinking how wrong I was. Here's hoping.

https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Bruce_MaddoxI was a pretty big fan of TNG and have watched pretty much everything Star Trek (with the exception of the animated series)
I quite liked the first episode.
Pros
Patrick Stewart as Packard
Looks very nice.
Lots of call backs and Easter eggs those who wanted them.
Interesting story.
Almost feels like proper trek, but not quite (see below)
Cons
Sloppy writing
Plot errors. (They talk about there being Data and B4, but forget about Lal and Law)
Gaps in logic (how could a malicious party transport into star fleet HQ? 950 million doesn’t seem like a lot of Romulans, why couldn’t they just move themselves to a different planet in the empire? There must have been a thousand ways to do it without having to build an amarda,)
Why would you put an artificial brain in an organic body? Wouldn’t the other way around make more sense?
Hopefully some points will be answered as the show moves on.
At least it’s not as bad as discovery.
