Sounds like he was on a promise though, so well-motivated.

yes

Remarkable in so many ways.
All on open public roads too.
The Mille Miglia was on borrowed time in 1955 , everyone knew the cars were way too fast by then.
The fatal crash in Guidizzolo in 1957 obviously was the last straw !

99mph average over 10 hours, I can’t get my head around that.
Agree, it's similar in my mind to the feats achieved during the Isle of Man TT races.

6 consecutive laps of 37.8miles around the island - 225 miles in total.

Bends, bumps, blind corners, drain covers, dry stone walls, lamp-posts and metal signs everywhere.

Hickman's average lap speed, will shout that, AVERAGE speed despite all kerbs and obstacles was 136.4mph - over 225 miles of a road course. He was travelling at 200mph on the straight bits to make up time and doing it for one and three quarter hours.

Amazing his bike could go that fast given the size of his testicles.

Watched a lot of F1 when I was a kid, but bikes of all kinds are where its at now for exciting racing.

I was thinking just that when Chris Harris was going on about how dangerous racing was back then, puts the risks that motorcycle racers who specialise in road races take into perspective.

Great piece though especially the racing footage, back when car racing was raw and viseral (and bloody dangerous).

When I saw the Bentley at Portmeirion I assumed they would bring on a nicely spec'd DB11 but ho-hum, that's not the car that Aston want to promote hence the SUV. Aston sell a lovey GT however Top Gear decided to not to use it.
Manufacturer wanting to promote new model over the one that's been on sale for four years shocker.
since when was top gear about aquiesting to the merchandise line manufacturers are pushing?

Serious q as I don't watch it these days but it'd be amusing to witness the response from the old trio being told to do a bit promoting kid shifter product.

Shush, I’m trying to intently watch it all the way to the end so I can moan how much I don’t enjoy it.
Oh just fuxk off why don’t you?
That particular stance got really boring, a really long time ago and is now more tedious that the very type of comment you’re ridiculing.
Bit rude.
Yes, I must watch that. Tends to happen when tedious bores flog a proverbial dead horse.

Old Top Gear had endless puff pieces for various cars, including god knows how many Amgs. The first series of The Grand Tour also had far too many lengthy supercar articles not doubt aimed at the international marketplace.

A good hour of TV.

I'm really not a fan of that Aston at all.

Ballsy sitting on top of the cars and not a chance I'd get on that zip wire.

Can we have a week without all the needless childish bickering?
Really looking forward to this week's show. Not seen it yet, please don't disappoint lads, but from what I know the Bentley and the Aston would be a toss up for lottery win cars, bugger it, have both.

If it's the zip wire I think it is, it's a bloody awesome trip.

Moss tribute, not even seen it yet and just know it will be good.

Re childish bickering, just to clear things up for an old fart, getting a much needed rest from the bickering, is that a reference to the presenters, this thread, or both? My vote goes for both.

That was the best of a weak bunch so far for me. Some real highlights in there, and they followed a lot of a trip that I did last year.

The 'challenge' was formulaic at best, but I had a real chuckle (the first of the series) at the guys driving attached to the roof.

The Stirling Moss segment was also very well done. Probably my favourite new TG 'to camera' segment, with the McRae stuff a close second.

ETA - The camera crew really love those drone shots, don't they? Might be worth toning it down a tad.

Please never watch it again or if you do don’t come in here and tell us again how bad you think it is when we totally disagree with you.
You're a really odd bloke.

The idea of telling someone what they can/can't do on PH, and invoking the collective "we" as if you're part of some club.

I've enjoyed the series so far, and despite me being a born and bred southerner have no issues understanding any of the presenter's accents wink

Great piece on Stirling Moss, that sort of segment has always been done well by Top Gear and CH I'm pleased to say had picked up this mantle rather well.

The "GT" segment was light entertainment, balls of steel again from Freddy, does anything faze him?

Didn't mind the Aston, but thought it looked a bit understated. If I'm spending 6 figures on an Aston I want it to look like an Aston rather than blend into the crowd. Although I want to like them, McLaren's have never really done much for me, whereas the new crop of Bentley's have started to appeal to me. Quite liked that one, and I also think the new Continental is a massive improvement on the previous (rather ugly) versions. So once my lottery win comes in, it would be the Bentley for me biggrin

Me & my motorcycling buddies had a week touring those Welsh roads instead of Italy this September, it was great, we’ll do it again, possibly on four wheels like many others we saw, if they let us in.

A good episode and one that went quite quickly which is always a counter-intuitively good sign.
If I spent £170k on an Aston I’d want it to look a bit less like a Ford though...

I can't help thinking that PM genuinely doesn't like CH. I might be wrong but when he's throwing 'funny' quips at him there always seems to be a bit of school bully needle thrown in there for good measure.

After the utter dross that was last weeks episode I really enjoyed last nights.

As said the Moss tribute was fantastic much like the Jim Clarke one they did a few series ago.

I also enjoyed the main feature. Only weak part for me was the McLaren v AMG GTR 'cruise control' challenge. Bit of a waste when you have those 2 cars and Anglesey circuit to play on but other than that an enjoyable hours TV.
