When was this filmed? They're all standing around in thick coats and woolly hats.
Must have been months ago. Assume they did the whole batch of links all in one evening. HAL 9000 said:
I didn't think cars could be crushed straight off being used, but had to be prepped such as draining all fluids, removing batteries etc etc. So they could hardly have been crushed in the times frame suggested in the filming.
I’m sure the answer will be in here. Happy reading https://www.gov.uk/guidance/end-of-life-vehicles-e...

Here's a thought: maybe it wasn't even those cars that got crushed.Mr-B said:

I do love a cheap banger challenge, even if its a little short on content. MC20 looked great in black!
Yes cheap shed challenges are always fun. Which was the one with the boot floor totally rusted through? MX5?
I look forward to seeing the MC20 in the metal, or should that be in the CF. Heavy though?

Was the Diablo a "scrap" car or just a car in the background? There's obviously loads of dosh in scrap so no reason not to see a good car around.
It would have been funnier if it was the one that Paddy crashed...Quite enjoyed last night's episode. Thought the maserati was overrated, failing to beat the 7 or 8 year old lap time of the huracan around dunsfold in the dry. I expected better. For me I just don't like seeing perfectly usable cars scrapped. That mini was quite a decent little car and R50 coopers are close to modern classic status. But that's just me.
Best one of the series so far.

I bet it was totally buggered though and there are, for the moment, plenty of them around. Good cars for a discerning cheap car hunter though. I bought a R53 supercharged version for 1200 quid in 2019 and ran it for the best part of three years without it costing me a penny outside of consumables. thetapeworm said:

I know it would make boring TV for the masses but I'd have preferred something much more 'informative' regarding the sheds.
They obviously had very little MOT so take them for a test, see how bad they are, how much would it cost to get a years ticket, how much is the VED on them, and then actually run them for a month or two as a normal car, doing a normal commute, taking the kids to school, going shopping and see what the costs are compared to leasing a new car.
But there's no room for informative journalism on prime time TV these days, especially any that might show that the way forward financially for the masses isn't leasing a new EV.
At one point that's where I thought it was going, a mechanical once over to highlight why the cars are so cheap and what it would take to get them up to scratch and see if it's worth the trouble vs buying newer. Obviously not to geek levels but a bit of a high-level chat about it might have been nice. But no, we got them crashing into each other in an unrealistic "test".
That said it wasn't a bad episode overall.

I'm the same, but I think all those cars were MOT failures (or close to being) and due to be scrapped anyway - look at the MX5 with no boot floor - not the used car bargains they pretended they were. Best one of the series so far.

Does seem they were all stboxes intercepted on their way to scrap not real 'cheap' cars. Didn't they even more or less say that at the end to deflect the inevitable criticism? HAL 9000 said:

Just watched it, when the cars were scrapped, the wheels had already been taken off, so it looks like they were prepped for the crusher, having seen a car prepped before, it only takes minutes, you don't get drained by taking plugs out, it's a spike attached to a hose, straight in and drained to a drum, then it goes in the crusher. They would have been examined off screen to see it they were worth getting parts off, but I suspect that due to their age and condition, crushing was the best thing for them. Have seen a few reviews of the MC20 and got to inspect both the hard top and convertible version at FOS on Saturday. Shows they filmed that segment some time ago as they mentioned a convertible version being due possibly in the next couple of years.... Serious want for that car, and even better in the metal. I would take one over a Ferrari or Lambo any day.

I like it too. In contrast to a poster above, if I ever had enough money for a car like that, a second here or there around the TG track would make absolutely no difference to my buying decision. Jules Sunley said:

I felt the opposite, it was the part of the show I found most boring and didn't even like the way it looked. Suoercar by numbers and 1500kg? Not that I'll ever have a chance to buy one, armchair critic over and out....Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
