What's happened to all the " I've got a mate who works on TG..." types on here?
What is happening RE Freddie and the future of TG?
Those must have been horrendous injuries.
I think they are on hold pending an investigation. Making decisions paralyzes some organisations.

“The BBC says it has scrapped the latest series of Top Gear after presenter Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff was hurt in an accident while filming.”

TBH I think Top Gear in its current form had probably run its course anyway. Hope Freddie makes a good recovery all the same.

I agree they’ve run out of ideas, but it’s still hugely popular and profit worldwide.

However, the BBC isn’t a business so profit is less of an issue.

I think the bigger issue, is that TG has become an embarrassment to the BBC, who I think have been desperately looking for an excuse to cancel it for years now.

Lads racing about burning petrol is just not on message, but I expect Freddie will be gutted if TG ends due to his accident.

I hope he is ok and is back behind the wheel already.

Its a worry isnt it. Silence in the media (quite rightly) and an.. interesting statement from the bbc. Are the HSE involved? Lawyers? I hope he is OK. It was only ever for our entertainment, afterall

Indeed, Top Gear died when CH&M stopped doing it, it's never really been very good since IMHO

I agree completely.. in these very woke days there are those who think that driving for fun is not on, burning petrol,. taking risks when there are endless new regulations that are at odds with the whole carefree world I grew up in.

In the case of BBC they will replace it with something like Urban Cyclist or City Gardening or the like.

Ideas which propagate most quickly amongst people like yourselves ironically.

Top Gear died a long time before those lot left. I assume they were kept popular by the 10-15 age group who were all seeing it for the first time and thought it was funny.

I listened to a podcast a few days ago with Brian Klein, Top Gear director. He said Freddie's injuries are nowhere near like what Hammond had from his famous accident but Freddie has asked for time to recover and reflect on it.
He doesn't go into any detail of what actually happened, but makes it sound like it's really affected him.

I'm sad that the BBC appear to have decided to axe the show completely. I honestly thought the show had become unwatchable, so I haven't watched it (appart from a few FFW early Harris episodes). You'd think they'd want to recast and reinvent the show, but as someone said we're more likely to get "Jeremy Vine cycling around London", or similar.

Freddie always seemed to have a cavalier attitude to safety and what he wanted to do, maybe this accident has made him reflect on this and realise his mortality and his family and what could happen if he carried on with that outlook.

Think he was knocked unconscious for a while and broke a few ribs. So easy to think a few inches either way and it could have been as bad as Hammond

Really? Given all we hear about budgets, TV licences and costs you think it’s not a business? Off topic I know.
ETA: Also the recent cuts announced in BBC musical meaning quite a lot of people will be losing their salaried jobs is pretty much business like.

Where’ve you heard that? TG is a huge earner for the BBC overseas as well as still popular in the UK. We even got so see what was in the can after CHM had left, I imagine a reboot or presenter change is on the way again and we’ll get to see whatever’s been filmed so far for Series 34 at some point too, maybe even the Morgan sequence too.

Love that people read 'halting the filming of series 34' as 'axed'.

Facebook mentality. rofl

He got hurt, he probably realised he's not immortal and doesn't want to get seriously hurt for the BBC. Therefore he's taking a bit of time out.

Top Gear is too big an earner for the BBC.

The Daily Wail is “reporting” the BBC are axing TG due to Flintoff not returning after his accident.

I’m resisting the urge to go and read the article, the Wail is just bluster, exaggeration and click bait.

Look at what happened to Beth Tweddle on The Jump TV program. A former Olympian and world champion with life changing injuries that still affect her to this day.

You can understand someone thinking sod this for work.

Widely reported that they have cancelled the rest of this series. And then a handful of opinions from people in the industry that it won't return at all.
