Supra ..yellow porsche..db7

Reminds me of the days i used to play Gran Turismo 1..sometimes even sneaking down at 5am to win some championship so i could get the prize car of a mazda demio and sell it...keep repeating and ended up with the doge viper

Doesn't know anything? I suspect he really does, although some times he chooses not to show it.
Yep, it's part of the comedy act, just a change of a single word alters it from serious to acting a bit thick, one example being use of the word 'torques.'
Ah now, just for the record I didn't say he was thick. He's not thick at all, I was giving him credit for forging a far more successful career than my own out of no specific knowledge about anything. He's entertaining, I've always given him that.

May knows about cars, surely I'm not in the minority thinking that?

Hammond I reckon can probably drive a bit, he tries at least, hence the accidents smile

Compare that to a cricketer and a presenter, neither of whom can drive, plonked into the middle of a 'car show' in an attempt to amuse casual viewers while Chris Harris attempts to rescue his dignity by being the only one on the show trying to talk any sense. I watch TG for Harris' insights alone. For entertainment, I watch TGT.
Clarkson doesn't know about anything? Why did he get those jobs on motoring magazines and who wrote those books for him?

I read in the TG mag a few years ago that H certainly can drive but it has always the herd mentality on here to say he can't, so yours is the strangest mixed viewpoint on this thread.

The Lotus 79 film was one of the best things to come out of 'new' Top Gear for a loooooooooooooooooooong time

Chris Harris' reaction of almost exploding is testament to how much passion that bloke has for cars (watch the video of him going round the youngtimer collection on Youtube if you doubt his petrol head credentials)

Isn't that an oxymoron.....it's not "new" top gear if it was a loooooooooooong time ago is it hehe

I wasn't sure what to make of TG when Flintoff and McGuiness were announced as the new presenters. However I must admit to being pleasantly surprised and say overall that I have enjoyed this series and am now looking forward to the next one they do. I liked this episode. The Icelandic driving was very entertaining and Paddy's bit on the new Supra was very informative but I have to say I preferred the look of the BMW Z4! . Chris Harris in the Lotus 79 though was the best bit of this episode for me. I can remember this car winning all those Grand Prix in that season.

I do struggle a little bit with Paddy and FF not really knowing their material. I mean clearly Paddy didn't lust after a Supra when he was younger, then claim to love being in the original then love the new one when it isn't a Supra. When you look at how focused the original Supra was on the driver, compared to the bland BMW interior it has on the new one - clearly he never understood the soul of the Japanese cars of the 80s and 90s. CH nailed it for me about the Supra, it just didnt surprise and delight, it is just another Germanised coupe. IMO

But hope the three get another few shots at it, they have a better cohesion than previous years (mostly due to RR being dreadful) - if FF and Paddy could just be a bit more believable in what they are talking about. And yes fair play to FF for the Iceland stuff, enjoyed that.

I think the three of them together are the first line-up who look like they can continue to work together and develop that bond / relationship that TGT had / have.

It's their first series in a new environment for both PM and FF, I'm sure they will continue to learn as they drive more and more cars and build up the depth of knowledge that JT / RH and JM had, clearly they are passionate about it and bottom line it was enjoyable viewing.

I like it too, but would have been better with a Toyota/Lexus style interior

I’ve met him a few times over the years, most recently on a shoot and while he is quite bombastic he is very knowledgeable. I suspect that he plays down his car knowledge because otherwise that’s all anyone would ever talk to him about.

I think the series and line-up beat most peoples' expectations (including mine).

Always skip the celebrity bit still.

New Supra looked great on outside and my usual reason for never buying Jap cars (cheap plasticky interiors) is solved by nicking a BMW one
I looked around one at Donington on Sunday and I really liked the way it looked outside, but the interior was as bland as bland can be for me(typical Jap/mid 2000's BMW in many ways). Toyota look like they haven't even tried with the interior.

Even so I'd still love one with a manual gearbox...so I hope Toyota make one for sure.

Just finished watching the latest series and found it way above my admittedly low expectations! I actually laughed at some of the skits, which is something that's not happened when watching TG for quite some time.

Keeping in mind that it is of course fully staged and scripted, I thought the Supra piece and studio discussion was actually very in touch with PH and other forums - it captured this arguments nicely.

Positives (Paddy): 'Be grateful for the BMW/Toyota collaboration, otherwise this new sports car would not exist. It's a good car'.
Naysayers (Harris): 'Yes but it's just not a Toyota Supra. Its a bit bland boring and looks like any other BMW inside'.
Neutral (Fred): 'If you like it then buy it, if don't then leave it'.

Yup, enjoyed that series. The Lotus 79 piece was excellent.

I always assumed that the SIARPC was a Clarkson affectation: he wanted to meet the celebs. It now seems that someone, somewhere actually thinks it's a good idea.

Star in a car is cheap content. Take that away and they have another 10 minutes to think of something for.
