.... the whole production crew is different now.
At a high level maybe, but at most of the filming crew work on both TopGear and Grand Tour (source: Richard Porter on some podcast or youtube video).

After last the last series, I think this will be the first series since the Chris Evans one that I won’t bother with. #doubledumbeddowntopgear

the Grand Tour looks much more promising, though I could be wrong....

One of my mates put up a status on Facebook the other day asking if any of his other police colleagues were available this week for a challenge against the Top Gear people.

So that's something, albeit, not a very big something.

Does he mean the suppliers rather than the dealers?

I’m here now - filming delayed until 3pm ish, cold, wet and windy.
Sitting in the car keeping warm.

There’s a load of police vehicles tazzing around the track....

Just saw a mention of a Nepal special in a Xmas trailer on BBC2... didn’t the old guys do something similar?

I went yesterday (Thursday 12th) - Good day out (albeit very wet and cold waiting beforehand).

Arrived at 12.30 (latest arrival according to the ticket for a 1pm start) and didn't get into the studio until around 2.30pm!! Recorded various bits of 3 different shows to be aired during January.

The 3 presenters gel very well and seem to be pretty good buddies, some good vibes between all of them. Chris is certainly the "boss" and appeared less of a people person whilst Paddy and Fred do a lot of horsing about.

It was an interesting experience but, if anyone is going in the future, the "wear comfortable shoes" recommendation earlier is definitely to be heeded

The bussing in of audience could do with looking at.
It was pissing it down and windy whilst we had to wait for nigh on 6-700 people to get on three buses to and from the studio.
More busses would help, and the mad scrum to get the bus back needed sorting by the security who didn’t seem to do much.

Overall, an interesting day.
Filming didn’t finish for us until 6:55pm on Tuesday.

Back in the good old days you used to enter Dunsfold by the main gate, not the compass gate, and park in the big car park by the café. Then just walk in, no busses involved. Then it was all back to a little pub in Dunsfold village for beers with CHM and the producers.

I'll watch it, as there will not be much else to spark my interest on TV over xmas, but it's just copy and paste from the previous specials, scene by scene isn't it?

Maybe but it does at least look interesting and capable of entertaining, something The Grand Your failed to do, for me. I wasn't expecting to like TG with this team but I think they have a real bond and have fun making it and it shows.

Looks like they involve the locals in that fun too and don't patronise them like TGT.

It definitely does look a bit generic Top Gear special, but worth a watch to see I think.

They had a couple of double decker busses last year which made it much faster to shuffle people to and from the car park.

I saw the TG special trailer pop up on Youtube and within minutes the comments were full of people complaining about how terrible everything is. Couldn't help but think about this thread.

Can't believe they didn't consult you before they did any of that. What were they thinking?!?!
