Like others, I was pleasantly surprised by this week's episode. I really enjoyed the Stirling Moss segment, and felt that CH was so much better presenting something that he knew and cared about. He's embarrassing when he tries to engage in (dreaded word) `banter' with the other two, as it's so clearly not natural to him, and his manic, forced laughter is cringe-making.
But because he was concentrating on telling the story about SM he didn't feel the need to be a `personality', and he just let the story tell itself. He did it very well indeed.
When the segment finished it was clear that both PM and FF really respected SM, and were momentarily transformed into non-shouty, likeable people - if only they could stay like that, PM in particular. If he could just turn the volume down from around 11 to about 4 he could come across as quite a decent bloke, but I can't see it happening.
And having just invested in a new telly and soundbar some of the filming in Wales was really great to watch. I can't wait for when they do some of the grand tour type trips overseas - a Ferrari drop top driving through Tuscany and Umbria in late spring would be my idea of telly heaven, even if it was being driven by PM!

+1 to this and the rest. I don’t mind PM and it’s nice to see a fellow Northerner, even if he is the wrong side of the hills, but the constant shouting and pining to be centre of attention and the funniest man in the world lasts about 10 minutes then becomes unbearable. I definitely couldn’t watch two episodes on the trot. forrestgrump said:

Fair enough. I think this more Paddy's schtick rather than his genuine personality though, for me he is employed to play up the stereotype of the gobby northerner to the hilt. I read a few articles where he has talked about the difficulties of being a parent (two of his kids have autism) where he came across as anything but loud and obnoxious.Of course that isn't to say that people should find his on screen persona annoying.
