With the Rivian, it says there is a motor for each wheel and then shows a driveshaft; are motors central/inboard?
Why aren't the motors part of the axle assembly, are they too heavy or complex?
Lots of pictures around if you want to see the guts of the R1T, it's just a simple pair of inboard motors on each axle each with a driveshaft to the closest wheel. Why aren't the motors part of the axle assembly, are they too heavy or complex?
Were you expecting hub motors or something?

Anyone else spot the blue Diablo in the scrapyard. Just after the Roller
Yes, what’s a Diablo doing outside in a scrap yard? Edited by paulw123 on Sunday 26th June 22:48
Nothing to hold my attention so ended up skipping through most of it.

Did it look like the viper held back to let the rivian win to anyone else?
Looking at the trap times they ran high tens which isn't very impressive tbh.PH bks at it's finest right there.
Quite enjoyed that tonight.
Good to see Stig drive the Maserati, did I miss him doing the Lotus last week?
Some thing that struck me tonight is that through all the changes of presenters and some pretty dire predictable crappy challenges the one thing that always remains extremely good is the cinematography - outstanding

What’s the point of doing the Stig lap if the track’s wet? It gives a meaningless result (as demonstrated by the unfilmed dry lap) so why not just wait till the track’s dried out FFS?
Maybe they only had the car for a limited amount of time and maybe the forecast was for rain all day? And then maybe they were provided the car on another day when the film team weren’t there.
It’s not hard to deduce that, is it?

I'm sure they know what they are doing, more than me anyway!

It is if you’re deliberately looking to pick holes in the show. And then maybe they were provided the car on another day when the film team weren’t there.

I like these people who can’t stand P McG and therefore sit there poised with their finger on the fast forward button so they can zoom past any segments with him in.
I would probably just watch something else. There’s twenty odd years of TopGear on IPlayer for a start. One thing you’ll notice rewatching that is how long it took CMH to fix on the classic format, we had years of turgid chat about the best deals or sensible discussions about car stuff before any of that occurred. We didn’t even have Captain Slow for the first series of the new format and took years for their onscreen personalities to develop.

Lol, there's no pleasing some people. Hang on, isn't that what Jesus said?
No, Chas'n' Dave.I quite enjoyed last night's show. It was indeed more like a "proper TG". I do prefer the magazine format with a variety of topics.
Was the Diablo a "scrap" car or just a car in the background? There's obviously loads of dosh in scrap so no reason not to see a good car around. With regards the weather for the Stig lap, others have said it really but I guess that another thing is that they only knew it was dry the next day when the next day actually arrived. No point waiting for good weather.
I know it would make boring TV for the masses but I'd have preferred something much more 'informative' regarding the sheds.
They obviously had very little MOT so take them for a test, see how bad they are, how much would it cost to get a years ticket, how much is the VED on them, and then actually run them for a month or two as a normal car, doing a normal commute, taking the kids to school, going shopping and see what the costs are compared to leasing a new car.
But there's no room for informative journalism on prime time TV these days, especially any that might show that the way forward financially for the masses isn't leasing a new EV.

At one point that's where I thought it was going, a mechanical once over to highlight why the cars are so cheap and what it would take to get them up to scratch and see if it's worth the trouble vs buying newer. Obviously not to geek levels but a bit of a high-level chat about it might have been nice. But no, we got them crashing into each other in an unrealistic "test".
That said it wasn't a bad episode overall.

In France a car must have a Control Technique (MOT) that is no more than 6 months old.
That bit with the cheap cars was a bit odd, it was just so hollow as an idea. Get cheap knackered cars and kill them doing a very very simple challenge. Then do a single simple lap inside a yard you could barely see in the dark, and crush the cars at the end.
It wasn't exactly *bad* content but there was sod all to it, not even an attempt to dress it up.
