Purple Hair lady - So good I don't even remember her characters name. She shouted at Poe a lot and kept her really clever plan secret. A plan which pretty much amounted to make a run for it at 2mph while being used for target practice by the entire First Order fleet and being responsible for 99% of the Rebels getting wiped out in a turkey shoot. Remind me why her plan was better than Poe's again? Oh yes that's right because "girl power".

Leia - All due respect to Carrie Fisher (RIP) but she was way to ill to be in these films. It pained me to watch her, it just looked like it was a struggle for her to get through some of her scenes. Would have been kinder and made more sense if she was killed in TFA rather than Han or better yet they both went out together.
I was fortunate to meet Carrie about 6 months before she died (weirdly, she was with Kenny Baker who would also die before that year was out). She was as large as life, caked in glitter and I'm told she was always this way. Sharp as a tack, hilariously funny and just a lovely woman. She didn't seem ill or struggling in any way at all and her scenes in the new movies always came across as 'just Carrie'.

Rose looks fat

The shoehorned love interest between her and Finn, literally zero chemistry between them leading to one of the most awkward and cringe worthy scenes ever committed to film "saving what we love". In fact pretty much any scene with Rose in, awful dialogue and worse acting but apparently those who point this out are just racist, middle aged white men, threatened by an Asian female actress.

Aaaaargh I'm getting angry all over again. mad
It really really is a TERRIBLE film, star wars or not.
Thing is, knowing that it's a hopelessly bad movie, I'm still going to the cinema to see it.

TFA or TLJ, doesn't really matter

Picture the scene

Han and Leia together again but trapped in a situation they know they can't get out of but able to make a last sacrifice to save some of the rebels and just enough time to reconcile differences.

Leia "I always knew you didn't just love money"

Han "I love you"

Leia "I know"

KA-BLOOOM

Both go out like champs with a reference to their previous exchanges in ANH and ESB. I would guarantee that scene alone would have driven old Star Wars fans orgasmic.

THIS is what Star Wars needed, someone who understood the universe inside out, who could seamlessly blend the old and transition it over smoothly into something new . instead we got Kathleen Kennedy with her one women crusade to make Star Wars politically correct and her fanny pocket side kick, Mr Rian fking Johnson, the one man human wrecking ball who wanted to "throw everything out" seemingly just to deliberately screw over the old fans.

AAAARgghhhh banghead

And Breath.

They already used that idea up in Rogue One. Well written for, or maybe they just didn't think of it until later and used it in Rogue One.

That's what they were missing, meaningful scenes between the old crew. They needed to handover to the new stars but also respect the old crew as well.

In the end they messed up the character development of the new stars, introduced new ones that didn't work, and never gave closure for the old.

I think it’s evident that no one really gives a st about any of the new characters to be honest.

Rey and Finn are no where close to Luke was in terms of wanting a specific outcome.

They are just flat and one dimensional.

Yeah I know, Rogue One was done by someone who "got it" and probably took the best bits that should have been in the other movies. Darth Vader managed to convey more bad-assery in 5 minutes then over 4 hours of Kylo Whinge. Sorry I just don't find whiney, emo teens that intimidating. Ren was decent right up until he took his mask off and started to whine like a bh. His character arc makes zero sense to me too.

I think they were potentially interesting after AFA and then TLJ threw it all away.

I’m not sure Disney will ever forgive themselves for handing everything to Rian Johnson to do with as he pleased. What a ridiculously bad mistake; especially in a fkING TRILOGY

For me in TLJ, the only redeeming scene was the jump into light speed that destroyed the star destroyer but i think that scene could've been so much better if it was Admiral Ackbar at the helm.
Imagine him just hanging on making sure that everyone got off the ship, flames and explosions all around him,
He then points the ship towards the enemy luring them away
and with his last breath;
"its a trap"
Cut immediately to lightspeed scene....

But if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle, we can talk about what was utter garbage about TLJ till the end of time.

I think Admiral Ackbar being killed off as just some random dude at the back of a shot getting sucked out into space really was a kick in the teeth for a lot of fans, sure he was never a main character but would it have been so bad to give him a proper death? Or just not have him in the film at all. And I agree with the poster above who says blowing stuff up with lightspeed kills the universe - a death star is utterly pointless if some random nutjob could wipe it out by lightspeeding into it.

Anyway, the new film. Red Letter Media did a jokey predictions video where they raised the suggestion of time travel and the more I see the more it makes sense - where else would the rebellion get all those new ships from...? And the Millenium Falcon has the wrong dish on it, or something like that.

Yep I've heard the rumours too. Much as Disney are trying their hardest to convince everyone this isn't going to be a massive ret-con of TLJ, they even got JJ Abrams saying that it was planned all along, I think we all know that's massive BS and the last film will basically undo all the crap Johnson ruined in TLJ, probably using time travel as the mechanism to do it.

Rewatched Last Jedi last night and it wasn’t as bad as my memories suggested.

The only jarring element for me was the pointlessness of Snoke.

What’s all the hate for it for?
We might al want different things from films, but to be brief, for me:

It's the middle part of a trilogy but basically threw the first part in the bin.

The Hux character was destroyed.

The casino plot was stupid.

The chase plot was stupid.

The purple general was stupid only to be wasted after being the only new character to get development.

Admiral Ackbar was wasted.

Finns character was wasted and denied meaningful action by a stupid plot twist.

Rey did a whole lot of nothing only to become more powerful than Luke in ESB with no explanation as to why.

Lukes character was wasted. And his plot stupid.

Characters who survived super happy after getting their asses kicked and seeing their friends die.

It was visually truly beautiful, but as a film it was poor. As a Star Wars film central to canon it was an abomination.
