...Looking forward to the Brooklands series as I’m a trainee volunteer there.
Didn't catch what that was about. Anyone know? Edited by thegreenhell on Saturday 6th March 00:04

The professional restorer seemd to work to a very high standard so I was surprised by the shutlines on the Herald - even worse than when it left the factory. Not sure about the handling of the AS/Bentley/Daimler special. Nice looker, nice motor but surely the chassis wouldn't be up to it?
His standards weren't that high, if you watch it again he made a right dogs dinner of attaching the hinges to the A7 bonnet. Some of the rivets had missed the hinge and he'd put penny washers on them to catch the hinge! As for that abomination of a 'special', the proportions were all wrong. The wheels were too small, the body too high, the front wings looked like repurposed kids slides, French Marchal headlights and where the drivers seat was you could see there had originally been a bulkhead/divider going across the car that had been chopped out probably compromising the structure and giving a very strange line to the body.
To me it just looked like a very badly made special just using what he had lying around with no thought how they looked together.

I just hope they manage to keep it this way and not ruin the format by dumbing it down like so many others seem to do.

Thanks Westy, Pleased you enjoyed.
You must tell me what the format is and how I could dumb it down!
Here’s the Bangers & Cash master plan.
We all turn up at Mathewson’s on a daily basis, something happens, we film it, see what happens next and then edit it - all done with understanding, care & passion & with any luck, you watch & enjoy!
OK - I appreciate you all know there is a bit more to it, but that is basically it.
The only changes you will see is caused by the passage of time and how we all evolve to get though stuff together.
I do understand the meaning behind your thought though and the answer is over my dead body.

I assume from the weather and lack of masks etc. this is film from auctions in late 2019 / early 2020 (particularly the online auction). I don't think Sarah 'left' until late 2020 (October?).
All correct - the ‘timeline’ on this series is pre-COVID, into lockdown 1, and out of it - and into lockdown 2. We filmed the last ‘catch-up’ interview for episode 8 on Thursday.
I'm not sure how many auctions they film (MumblesBoy?) but you certainly see cars from several shows across a series, often in different locations around the site which indicates it might only be one or two auctions per series.
We film every auction and pretty much all the time. We do ramp up in when the clocks change and go at it with more yacko over the spring\summer, but it is pretty much ongoing.

Caught some the previous episodes last night. From the TV program its seems the auctions are very small with only limited buyers. Do they have a large online customer base to sell the cars and memorabilia?
Firstly, apologies for still not having got the hang of the quote layout.Up until lockdown Mathewsons were on site and phone bidding only, and it was busy.
Online was coming - but that was brought forward by necessity of lockdown.
So as of this moment, it is online and phone bids only.

Quite an esoteric bunch of vehicles, none of which I'd want on my driveway....well maybe a Herald but not that particular one....but just goes to show there's a buyer out there for pretty much everything
Nailed it. If we restricted it to just stuff that are the cover shots of the mags. you would soon get bored I think. The eclectic nature of ‘the movement’ is what keeps the wheels turning.Mumbles Boy said:

Bravo! The balance you have struck is spot on & a credit to you.MB
Out of interest, has this been picked up the American networks?
Not all their car programmes are dreadful fake jeopardy & engineered arguments. Chasing Classic Cars with Wayne Carini doesn't follow the usual pattern and Roger (his mechanic) appears to be universally adored on this forum. Almost 200 episodes over 16 series (Wikipedia) suggests that the Americans tuned in.

Sadly Wayne fell out with Roger over something and he has departed the show. I do not know what the reason was but the implication is that there was a big row Andy 308GTB said:

Roger is not really Wayne's mechanic. He has his own business but assists at F40.Out of interest, has this been picked up the American networks?

He has recently had both knees replaced which is why he hasn't been in the last series
