When are they going to open the auctions to the public?
I don't reckon they are going to now.It was a very subdued atmosphere at Pickering when I went there. No sign of Derek.

Will there be any point all of the non-vehicle memorabilia even going there if the public don't go there in person for auctions?
I would think the only memorabilia they will still do will be enamel signs and illuminated motoring signs etc., like they do now.All the other tat they used to sell will probably get thrown in a skip if it hasn't already.

Probably be sold at the shop in Thornton Le Dale would me by guess if not available on line. All the other tat they used to sell will probably get thrown in a skip if it hasn't already.

Plenty of vehicles were arriving for the next sale before the decks had been cleared from the previous sale. It was a little more chaotic than normal.

Agree with all of the above. Have a real fancy for a pre war car like an A7 or 50's MG but the reality is probably not what I'd want to drive.
You’d be surprised - they’re really great fun. Different, but great fun. We’ve got an A7 that my (15 yr old) son is tinkering with - he and his mates love it but I have to say, it’s wonderful fun to drive. I’ve had plenty of quick, modern things, several of which would be up there as serious drivers cars. The A7 is at least as fun (and nil licence danger!).Richard-390a0 said:
I wonder how many hours a week they waste shunting cars about? Something Dave was moaning about on a recent episode. I'm sure a lot of it is down to Derek's greed at not turning down anything to auction.
I've wondered that since the first episode! To be fair they're not in the most suited location for that many cars. They'd need a massive car park to put them in so they didn't have to shuffle them around.

You only have to look at some the VSCC trials events etc., to see plenty of young people having fun in old stuff.
One of the most fun things I've driven over the years is one of these, through London on a busy Saturday
Fun doesn't have to be fast.

I used to own one. Great fun on greasy roads. It brings a new meaning to opposite lock. Driving pre-war stuff is huge fun.

On the subject of open auctions, Brightwells have also maintained no public at their auctions, only at viewing days, even on the weekly police / ex MOD / dealer trade in cars! When I spoke to them, they decided the big drop in overheads (no more driving vehicle through, less staff, no cafe needed etc) made it just as good to do online/ phone only.

The number of people who seem to buy online / phone without seeing the actual vehicle... & then comment that it’s a lot worse than they thought.
(Sold as ‘NOT SEEN’... & if it can’t be fixed with a hammer etc)
Even worse with Mathewsons as you have zero comeback, it’s up to the potential buyer to do their own checks.(Sold as ‘NOT SEEN’... & if it can’t be fixed with a hammer etc)

Remember “if it looks right, and smells right then it is right” and if it’s not then too bad.
