Thanks for watching.
Pleased it hit the mark.
I will say now, I always struggle with episode order. This was ep 1 not because it was the best in the run, but it had a nice mix of pretty contemporary classics, a lot of laughs and honesty (not everything sells, that just doesn’t happen)
Every ep. has something special about it, and it’s not just because the car strikes a chord or a personal memory. I loved the road roller in this. I know sod all about road rollers but am now a big fan! Such knowledge and skill, and appreciation of heritage - AND he bought it to keep his dad happy! Brilliant.
I really appreciate you guys feel the passion and get what this show is about.
Back filming tomorrow morn. and details of next weeks soon.
Cheers

Lovely Renault spider behind the Dolly
A few familiar cars in the background from the last series, like the TR7 rally car, so presumably all filmed at the same time.We film every day and go with the flow - that’s why it can feel random and real - because it is.
The auction cycle is every 5 weeks and not everything sells at first go.
Added to that we usually follow vehicles to their new home, and that can take a while to sort out.
I’m waiting for one car to finish restoration to get the money shot and it was dragged out of a garage in spring 2018!
Lockdown was clearly a problem as we couldn’t film at all, so almost all this run was filmed pre lockdown.
The Renault Spider was an interesting car - and will make an appearance in a later show.
Anyone who knows Derek & family will know that he/they work 7 days a week, and are hard, nay impossible to keep up with.
I guess what I am saying is we wing it - but it certainly isn’t all filmed at the same time. We take good opportunities as they arise and they all go into the mix. The timeline can be jumbled by so many variables.

Do you get many punters who don't want to be involved in the filming?
Very few really...and the more you film a series the fewer it becomes. Trust is the main thing with it all, and we spend a lot of time keeping in touch with contributors, tell them when is going to be on etc.mk1coopers said:
Looking forward to the Mini being revealed, do try to show some of the work that has gone into saving the original shell if you can
More filming with this car next week! Rather like the economics of car restoration that we all know, I have spent more on the filming than the end value of the programme - but as Derek would say, ‘That’s not the point - look at it!’ Mmm.I was referring to a different resto in my initial post btw.

Disagree. They’re a self-effacing bunch of genuine car enthusiasts, which makes a welcome change from most other car-oriented programmes with shouty presenters who try to hog the limelight.
Agree, Derek's words of wisdom about the Toledo were brilliant, basically saying there is nothing you can do with it, apart from leave it in the corner...Mumbles Boy said:

Does Derek ever go home?
I've been to Thornton Le Dale four or five times since lock down was relaxed in summer and always have a wander past to see what's happening. Sometimes it has been on a Saturday, other times on a Sunday and even when the showroom / museum has been closed Derek has been there.

He’s almost always there when we go past (regularly, as we live nearby). Good first episode, been waiting for weeks for Series 3.
A few interesting Qs here re the Renault, the buyers and sellers being filmed etc, thanks for the replies MB.
Yes Derek's comments are generally well founded, very straight up re the Toledo & the Dolly Sprint, sometimes I think He's over playing the cars but not those too.
Was it just me or was there one less feature car this week?
Looking forward to episode 2.

Only if you don’t count a steamroller as a car!
There isn’t really a hard a fast structure here, though we aim to please by ringing a number of bells on every show.
The combinations of vehicles can vary a lot. There is a plan to putting the jigsaw pieces together, but it’s pretty random tbh.
You would be hard pushed to format the Methewsons!
Sometimes the car is the star, sometimes the owners story behind a vehicle is the thing, sometimes the auction or where it ends up.
Usually it’s a combination of all of the above with a range of vehicles from different eras, so there is a bit of something for everyone.
‘I had one of those’ - is a thought I hope people sometime have, as is “I always wanted one of those’ - but equally valid is ‘what the hell is that”?

By far the best tv car program ever
That’s very kind. Many thanks & I remember Hartley Hare very well, the most deranged and disturbing glove puppet ever to make it onto children’s TV! Now is the time for Hartley to make a comeback.
Such a team of knowledgeable professionals who actually seem to love their job
That is definitely true, and I will pass it on.
Thanks again

saved this to watch yesterday, have to say the Triumph Toledo was outstanding, should be in a museum, but Derek said , ' what can you do with it '
As for the W&P Dolomite.. just shows that sometimes leaving stuff the hell alone is a far better option. I can see why its a 1 of 1.
And the Jensen , was surprised it didn't make reserve, that was buttons for what it was, Just goes to show that the room dictates the price though.
On a similar tack, I have found another program 'Yorkshire Dales and The Lakes', which is another program that flies in the face of current trends, I know its a few years old now. but it filmed with the same demeanor. this is how it is, no 'drama where there is none' .
Lets hope this trend of thoroughly watchable , 'light entertainment' carries on, 'Bangers' is the only made for TV car program I now watch, all the US stuff is utter garbage ( Chasing Classic Cars is an exception) , and no amount of money will get me to watch Car SOS or the Cockney Tw@t .
