With all the strange angry folk petitioning HBO about GoT, I got thinking about long running shows that were as good at they end as they were at the start.

I can't really think of many:
Heros was probably the biggest drop in quality
Lost probably the most widely derided to the point where anything involving Damon Lindelof puts me right off
Walking dead has been up and down in quality a lot over the seasons - although I've not watched the last season
Battlstar Galactica kept the quality up but the ending divided opinion
Sopranos ending the same

Other than the Wire and Breaking Bad, any others?

I didn't mind that really, but I already knew there was a second series in the offing. I guess I mean long running series rather than a single season.

Not sure if it counts as a TV show, more a mini series, but Band of Brothers was awesome right through.

Band of Brothers - not beaten yet in my book. Best TV filmed so far.

ETA - Ah, long running, just read that bit. I suppose it doesn't count then.

Yes, I find it's best to completely ignore the final season.

I can still re watch all other seasons because on the whole, each season had its own story arc with a start, middle and end, meaning there is always a satisfying resolution at the end of each - unlike something like Game of Thrones, which is one long continuous arc.

Yep - got to agree with that !! You’re rooting for the antihero right until the last minute of the last episode.

Fawlty Towers, well, he quit while he was ahead, and Blackadder, the ending was majestic.

Not sure about the Wombles, the way Uncle Bulgaria died was sickening, just sickening.
