I've spent three weeks binge-watching Breaking Bad.

Season 4 had a conclusion, but they did something that I've never seen before. They resurrected the plot and Season 5 had an equally plausible ending.

Fleabag was brilliant and could easily have run to another season but the ending was a disappointment. Phoebe Waller Bridge was great as the writer and star but has said no more. Too busy either Killing Eve? Going to be a major star/talent I think.

Fawlty Towers, well, he quit while he was ahead, and Blackadder, the ending was majestic.
Faulty Towers long running? 2 series of 6 episodes?

Justified had an epic ending as did Burn Notice. Two great dramas with strong actors and storylines.

The final episode of Miami Vice wasn't a bad way to end quite a journey.

I stopped watching Frasier after Niles married Daphne, thinking that had to be jumping the shark, but have been told it stayed good to the end once they recovered from losing their writers in 9/11. Any opinions?

  • Babylon 5.
It nearly got cancelled halfway through its run so some plot points were front-loaded which left season 5 a little empty (the opposite of what's happened with GoT!) and the battle to keep the show alive was almost as epic as anything on screen, but they made it- J. Michael Straczynski wrote 92 of the 110 episodes including two unbroken seasons back to back, so it's got great continuity.

I still binge the whole lot every couple of years- the CGI gets worse each year, not all the acting is brilliant and there are obvious shortcomings, but I still think it stands up as a great show.

Another vote for Battlestar Galactica, it hasn't been beat for ongoing quality in my opinion.

Good call on Babylon5. Started great, waned a little in the middle but the final season was superb despite the dodgy CGI. The accompanying films were also brilliant and tied in to the main storyline.

Battlestar was consistently good bar one or two duff episodes (don’t mention the boxing episode!) and I thought the ending was great and neatly tied it all up. I think the moaners were pissed because it didn’t really leave it open for another series unless Cylons are your thing.

Breaking Bad. ‘Nuff said.

Found myself rewatching the old Starsky&Hutch boxset a while back and thought it was brill.

I have mentioned it elsewhere in a different thread.

Ashes to Ashes
Started off ok got better the 1st series finale was great 2nd series finale great
Series 3 good and IMHO the last 2 episodes of the programme are some of the greatest pieces of TV ever seen
The realisation of the characters that they were all dead every single one of them was moving.Chris's death because of a poor decision by a superior officer was sad Rays story was heart breaking but Shaz Grangers is really heartbreaking
Then there is the issue of Alex herself and Gene Hunts revelation is intelligent
I genuinely believe the ending of Ashes to Ashes is one of the best things the BBC have done

Oh and Our Friends In The North - quality throughout

Southland, doesn’t seem to get much love on here but for me was great from start to finish when it got canned.

Also as mentioned previously Blackadder

Another vote for the Shield.

Banshee ended well too, no loose ends.

Yup. Great build up and waiting for something great to happen and then mad. It took the piss out of the viewers.

There is a point where Gene says "I know, I know" to Alex outside the pub towards the end and it sounded so genuine.

That programme gave me goosebumps so many times and had such a great and lasting feelgood factor and was one of the greatest television events.

BUT why the hell did the BBC drop the fact that the ratings were also riding on the 1980s wave of nostalgia? Did they follow it? Nope...back to the bloody 1960s we go!!
