Narrators and other people in documentaries speaking about something that happened in the past in the present tense. eg Nelson is on the quarterdeck of the Victory when he's shot …… etc

A few of my tv hates
Unreadable white subtitles against white background
Advert breaks only 4-5 mins. into the program
Sky TV guide listing a program as 'new' when it is actually a repeat
These silly irritating mini-ads at the start and finish of ad breaks - eg "this programme is sponsored by xyz etc"- how the fk does a box of teabags or a website selling spectacles sponsor a tv program?

Just ads in general. It really annoys me that you pay through the nose for Sky and you still end up having to sit through loads of virtue-signalling, PC rubbish for products you wouldn't buy anyway.

Quantity over quality. Too much choice, too little good stuff to watch.

But most of all, the weird thing that happens with Netflix and Prime. When I'm busy, there are loads of good programmes that I think I'd like to watch. But when I have a spare hour, there's never anything on there that I feel like watching. How does that work? Do they hide all the good stuff when they know I'm watching? eek

Me too. Sometimes I wonder if any of the production team has actually watched the programme they've made.

1. Advert breaks that are synchronised across many channels, so you can't have a flick round to other programmes while they are on.
I was going to post the same

Sky are getting very good at this

On the subject of volume on the adverts, I have stopped watching live broadcasts entirely. Adverts are all just rubbish.

I've found that cutting a piece of cardboard in the shape of a moustache and selotaping it to the TV screen provides much more entertainment than the program being viewed.

The constant previews of forthcoming programs are annoying.

It can get a little tedious seeing the same preview 10 times over on an evening.

And of course the adverts - too many, too frequent.

my virgin media TiVO box.. and the lack of the 'change channel at start' feature that my old V+ box had. if there's a movie/programme coming on ill use this feature.. so it obviously changes to the channel 1minute before it starts. but for some reason the newer TIVO boxes don't have this. it's such a simple thing they could implement...

This really annoys me too and even after you watch the series, you get it all again promoting it on iPlayer / ITV Hub.

Channel 4's particularly bad for this.

I generally only watch The Simpsons (despite the ham fisted, nanny editing) on C4. Usually there are previews for 2-4 ste reality programs before and either side of the ads.

I also hate the 'amusing' trails they do with the logo, I know what fking channel I'm on; just start the program.

Same. Adverts are now unbearable - seeing 70s adverts now, at least they were often funny and clever; now ads are just 'lifestyle' cool people being cool. Makes me gag.

I also subscribe to Google Play Music which gives me YouTube premium free - no YouTube ads! Bliss.

The awful eating habits shown as "normal" such as people talking with food in their mouths, people scraping the plates, people crunching loudly...
