Please God no.

I watched the 2nd in a haze of alcoholic abuse sat next to the drunk nymphomanic girlfriend of my best friend. No idea what happened in the film and spent the next 6 months trying to convince my mate nothing had happened (it hadn't in real life but apparently her drunken memory was somewhat different).

never bothered with the 3rd

I've seen plenty of Youtube videos where people break down film scenes and look for hidden meaning and symbolism, but I've never seen anyone be able to explain what the blithering hell that Oracle scene was supposed to be about. The first was an excellent self-contained film with at the time revolutionary effects (yes, back in the day I tried to get my mum to buy me a leather trenchcoat, and no, she was smart enough not to). But the sequels were a bloated self-indulgent mess which thought they were really clever but had nothing to say.. So yeah, I'm not excited for the fourth, especially as everything they've released since has been mediocre at best.

I enjoyed the first and it was interesting for the time.

I remember all of the rave reviews of the next two. I remember people telling me I simply had to see number 2 or I was missing out. I watched it and thought it was self centred, overdone crap that was trying to be far too clever.

3 was just awful.

If it had been left at 1 the franchise would be remembered for being great.

I have little hope for 4.

If they can keep going to film no. 9 they could call it MatrIX. Which would be nice.

Throw a bit of old skool sexist British comedy in it and call it Matron.

The two leading characters died in the 3rd film, so I assume the 4th story will start before the first film?

They have an easy out - if you can be bothered to remember (& I don't blame you, if you can't), the Matrix had been repeating the same "story" over and over to deal with the rise of Neo - so, all they need to do is "reset" the story again & we get a "new" Neo. Ta-da!

I saw all three once they appeared on Sky, never bothered with the cinema. I couldn't work out what all the fuss was about at the time and I still can't now. I suppose I watched them for FOMO. Several hours of my life I'll never get back. I won't be making the same mistake again. Absolute load of utter bullocks.

Well they all live in a simulation, so they can just simulate a 4th film.

Only hope I have for any Matrix film would be a live action remake of the Animatrix films. They were fantastic for filling in the background of the Matrix backstory.

It'd work* if it went back to explain how we got to the original Matrix.

But then you'd need a new main actor and KR as the older him or flash back and forward in time travel.

  • Blade runner didn't work.
So this won't. Sadly.

I found both the 2nd and 3rd good cinematography but absolutely bobbins.

the first one was revolutionary and came out of left centre field - the hype at the time was for phantom menace but matrix was a far superior movie in almost every way.

2 and 3 were esoteric and barmy at best. two is plausible as a sequel with enough action and just about enough intrigue and peril to keep you going but it was interspersed with hammy dialogue and pseudo religious bumph that ultimately left you wanting more but not more of the same.

three was garbage with next to no redeeming features.

I normally remember little details from films after being reminded of them (ie. "Oh yes, they found out Neo was the 6th chosen one from...") but I have absolutely no memory of the Matrix repeating or there being another 5 chosen ones! Loved the first film but the other two were utter dross.

I remember when the first film came out and the buzz, it was amazing. The 2nd had some good bits but ultimately it had begun disappearing up its own arse. I can't even remember anything about the 3rd one which says it all.

I saw a bit of the 2nd one not long ago. The special effects looked appalling by today's standard, yet they were cutting edge. Guess it was a long time ago.

The are a couple of long awaited sequels coming in the next year or so I am really looking forward to (Top Gun Maverick and Bad Boys 3). I am not even a little bit excited about this. I will still watch it and maybe I will be surprised.

Maybe all 3 previous films were still within the Matrix and the 4th is actually going to outside in the real world so it doesn't matter what Keanu and Carrie-Ann look like because in the Matrix they looked young because that's what the Matrix did. It would also explain all the silly powers and fast learning.

I'd imagine with the technology available (look at Sam Jackson in Captain Marvel) that the scenes in the Matrix will be still set in 1999 and they'll be digitally made to look younger*

  • Apart from Keanu, who is an actual vampire
Edit- Captain Marvel, not Captain America, doh

I have no interest in another Matrix film - the first was ace, the next two progressively more pony.

I would have interest in hearing more tales about the aforementioned nymphomaniac though.
