Disney+ confirms content will be different based on each country - it is also rumoured that The Mandalorian will be a weekly drop for UK - and not all already there from day one to prevent binge watching on trial/1 month membership.

hmmmm.

It was weekly drop in the US but won’t people willing to use a monthly trial subscription and cancel it afterwards have watched it already by then anyway?

Sneaky but don’t mind too much. I don’t get the time these days to binge.

yup exactly - ( i did via VPN ) but people who have been waiting patiently in a hope of binge watching it in the UK next month might be a bit upset.

I will be looking for a years up front at the discounted price, two months FOC I think? Hard enough watching what I buy on iTunes in the sales without this, should be plenty for me. Review in a year.

Unless you have kids you would be wasting your money IMO.

I have kids and I won't be bothering, just not enough content for the money.
Might have a month when S2 of Mandalorian drops or if any individual series takes my interest but that will be towards the end of the month when I can binge.
If they only have a rolling 4 weeks of episodes they can do one.

They'll do the weekly release thing, they know it's the best to maintain the 'water cooler' effect. ONce series 2 of Mando starts, it'll start the run of all the big new shows, MCU and that.

Yep Disney+ did an Instagram FAQ and strongly implied Mandalorian would be weekly, confirming the first episode would drop at launch. Makes sense I guess given the risk to them of people having a 7 day trial just to binge that.

I think differing content was always a given considering the different deals Disney have worldwide. Sky still have premieres (and subsequent streaming) on new Disney releases for example. It looks as though Sky are going to replace that once the deal expires by signing a deal with Disney to integrate Disney+ directly into Sky Q packages (as they already do with Netflix).

Already rumours Sky are close to a bundle deal and the rest can carry the app. For me that will be Apple (assuming they carry through with rumours of 4kHDR10), BT does 4k but not HDR10. Not sure Sky does HDR either, at least the sports section has been push back I understand, not sure on films?

Each to their own, I have seen enough on the list to keep me occupied for a while. I have held off buying a lot of Disney content on Apple TV knowing this was going to happen. Lot of catchup to do.

My guess is they have seen from other territories that membership dropped off once Mando had finished, and they have nothing new coming for ages now anyway, so why would you keep paying the money?

An early bird deal to keep the payment low? Disney has enough for my likes to tick me over till Mando 2 and then WandaVison hits.

Sensible from a business point of view. Their catalogue is weak and will continue to be for a while. Anyone who would be very keen to watch it at a faster rate would presumably, as I did, have pirated it when it was launched in the USA.

£59.99 for 12 months, so essentially 2 months free compared to what is already a pretty low monthly cost (£5.99).

No tiers, so 4K, unlimited downloads, 10 devices, seven separate profiles and 4 devices in use concurrently all included in the package.

wow, I don't have netflix (with how much time I have fitting in all the things now, it'd be a waste) so not too hot on comparisons but that sounds like a lot and to me, worth it.

What's the difference between 4k/HDR10/HDR? Is it all 4k, but recieved in different formats or just done in a different way, or is HDR10/HDR more definition that goes beyond 4k?

Can o worms.

HDR is a generic term covering many versions of a method to display a greater range of colour that is bolted to the basic 4k recording or live stream, bit more to it than that.

Your eye can see a certain colour range. The film format may capture all that but less able panels cannot display it but someone editing the film can grade it, stick on a metadata file to tell the display "here you go" and a capable panel will use it to better display the range of colours.

Some panels don't do HDR and cannot display the fuller range, capable panels can use it to their fuller potential. A 4k panel with no HDR will see the metadata, won't know what to do with and strip it. You get a base 4k picture.

HDR10 is the usual suspect, it is open source. You then get manufacturer specific such as Dolby Vision or HDR10+, PQ10, HLG and a few others. Problem is when someone says HDR (looking at you BT) no one knows what version it is but assume it is HDR10, not all devices can show all the versions. Dolby probably draws a premium for inclusion in the hardware and software and that means it doesn't tend to make the cheaper panels I think.

Edit. Probably missed something in there and got bits wrong.

Last time I checked Netflix Premium (equivalent to the Disney+ offering) is £11.99 per month. Most of the new services coming along are nearer £6-7.

For me absolutely not worth it, I'll be cancelling and hopping between Netflix and Disney+ on a monthly basis as and when required (i.e. binge Mandalorian once it's all out, ditto Stranger Things 4).

I really can't see Netflix maintaining the dump and binge model with so much competition coming, far too much risk of people hopping monthly as I plan to do.

I have a decent Samsung smart TV. It already has the Netflix and iPlayer links on it. Do you think the Disney+ app will appear automatically or after an update?

Don't know, depends on Disney and the TV for the TV apps, they are already streaming in the US and Netherlands, link below might be out of date.

US forum on the subject will have more I suppose.

I will probably be using my Apple TV, my LG is four years old now but initial mentions were for add on boxes.
