Disney+ new streaming announced officially
Discussion
Soul, the next Pixar film, is skipping the cinema release in November and going to Disney+ at Christmas. No premier access fee this time, that didn't work out for Mulan so they're dropping it.

'Star' will be a new part of Disney+ in February next year for the 'grown up' films and TV from FX and 20th Century (Fox). One of the announced series will be by Noah Hawley (Fargo and Legion TV series) and based around Alien.

I have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney Plus.
I've watch a couple of Disney classics but that's it, its never my 'go to' to watch something but if they can get some good movies on there then it may be.
Most of the good films on Prime have to be rented. I am not fussed if they are new, there are lots of good old films I haven't watched yet.
Increasing the price might be shooting themselves in the foot though.

Same trio for us but we get our mileage out of Disney+ with two young boys. It’s kind of rendered the DVD drawer pointless. Would be nice to have some more series to watch on there for adults tooI've watch a couple of Disney classics but that's it, its never my 'go to' to watch something but if they can get some good movies on there then it may be.

Glad I paid for a year upfront. Ridiculous that only months after launch they are upping the price. I hope they get lots of cancellations so they back down.
It will have been out a year and the next 12 months are packed with new content. It was clearly 'too cheap' to begin with to get subscribers and it worked, big time.ch37 said:

How many streaming services do they expect people to use, especially when they're bumping the prices?

Remember when people complained about paying £50 a month for Sky for a bunch of channels they don't watch? Now you pay £15 a month for Netflix, £7 a month for Disney, £8 a month for Amazon and so on for a load of stuff you don't watch and in a lot of cases for the stuff you do watch you have to wait a week between episodes.

The difference being that Amazon, Netflix and Disney+ don't have advertising surely?Never seen the appeal of a subscription service that you have to watch adverts every 10-15 minutes and at least 5 minutes worth before watching a film

And pretty much all of them are on 30 day rolling contracts. I know a lot of people who just do occasional months to binge stuff or flip flop between Netflix and Disney+. No adverts either. At least we have a reasonably consolidated range of streaming platforms in the UK. The US has so many more. CBS All Access, Hulu and HBO (and others) are all absorbed into existing platforms in the UK rather than all standalone platforms (i.e. Hulu is being absorbed into Disney+ in the UK next year, in the US it's a separate thing)
We have Sky and are running it down as it's simply not used any more, still got 8 months of paying for it though! I wanted to cancel our 30 day rolling Sky F1 contract today, I have to phone to cancel it (and it's near impossible to get through!)
What does surprise me is that nobody seems to come up with a decent hub that pulls all the content you have in to one searchable place. Our Roku stick kinda does it but it's not great. Seems like a massive opportunity, I've lost count of the number of times I've had to fire up 4 services just to see if we have a particular movie.

New Chromecast does this and it's quite slick as well.Edited by ch37 on Monday 14th December 14:23
Pulls all content from the providers subscribed to, in a tile format side by side.
Use voice search or from the remote to search for a film/programme and it will bring it up from whichever provider has it.

Just watched a few reviews, that does look like what we're after. We have a few Nest Hubs as well so it'll be good to have everything in the same ecosystem.Pulls all content from the providers subscribed to, in a tile format side by side.
