gosh darn them pesky parallel storylines.
Stick to Mr Men books if this is a bit complicated for you.

I noticed whilst watching TWD on Fox tonight that they are screening a series of War of the World set in modern times shortly.

Didnt running man Cruise already do that on the silver screen.

Anyone remember that dire tv series from USA in the 90's with the guy with the permy hair..... i could google but it was so dire i feel my life is too short to waste on it.

anyway it had that "recorded using home video" quality, more budget issues than style

I found the second episode hard going, constant "flash forward" really got on my nerves it's sort of telling you the end before you get there, a bit in spoiler.

Enjoyed the beach scene, very impressive gunnery from the RN though, considering a few years later they couldn't hit the German battleships at Jultand but could hit the legs of those tripods!

If there was another half a dozen episodes I'd be bailing but I'll watch the last one on Sunday. Especially as it is preceded by the very impressive "His Dark Materials".

I watched this last night and while I can't make up my mind about, it is totally forgettable AND slow. And disappointing.

It did feel like the story ended though - we know that the martians are dead and that the planet is still covered with the red weed while humanity tries to work itself out. All that's left is to find George - And I'm not sure I care any more.

I agree with everyone here, I am glad it’s just a 3-parter.

Already seen it, its ok, a joint US/French production. It is a bit different, no tripod types in this one but something very familiar if you have seen recent robot videos on youtube.

Tried catchup on number 2 last night. What is it with the pick axes, are they made of glass?

Too much amiss for me to stay with it.

Might fast forward through the bits tonight.

What were they digging at/for in the camp anyway?

Graves or carrots? Bit like the case in Ronin perhaps?

Last used a pickaxe when I was an apprentice to be honest but you needed to get your swing right and hit the ground with purpose or it went no where. Of course a lot better when they let me loose on the pneumatic drill.

I looked at it as a completely different entity to everything we know. I approached it as not knowing anything about the previous storyline. With a clean sheet and open mind, it's been quite watchable. wink

I think the biggest issue with it is that the pacing and world building have been at the leisurely pace you would expect of a full series that has expectations of being long-running, like Downton Abbey for example.

For a 3-part mini-series, it has been far too slow and self-indulgent, and tried to cram too much in, and the final episode is either going to be rushed or incomplete as a consequence.

I could probably get interested if stuff like loading the canon (and other swamp stuff) was not so poorly set up. Also the town square.

I did come into this with an open mind and am willing to accept the way the script is going, sort of. But little things grate on me and there are too many little things.

Liking the tripods though.

Managed about half an hour and realised I was watching a costume drama and turning into a woman.

So turned it off.

Soon after this was announced they claimed to have sold it all around the world.
I now find that hard to believe.
It will probably be in a constant loop on the various horror and sci fi channels as they will probably buy it in for peanuts.
Its awfulness will actually mean it infests cheap scheduling everywhere forever.
No news of the sackings at bbc hq so far as they close ranks on another scandal lol.

The BBC bought it, and it was sold in the states too, so I guess they're not lying.
