Just catching up in this, I am currently watching Episode 1. It is a beautiful production and amazes and distresses in equal measure.

If you can get it on 4k, it is absolutely stunning.

Great programme, shame it was half wildlife documentary and half extinction rebellion propoganda film
What’s the supposed link with XR, I must’ve missed it?

If you choose to remain ignorant about the impact of Human activity on the natural world there’s always something less informative on the other side

Rather like rape vs celibacy, there is a middle ground that seems far more sensible than either denialism or panic. XR don't promote science, they promote hysteria. The link to the programme is that seemingly no one yet has heard the message constantly repeated on most channels. It's just tiresome.

Great programme this week - very enjoyable.

Usual visual superbness. Hope the big snake was filmed with the camera on the tv end of a pole. Glad to hear the pussy cat numbers are on the up.

You mean the ones which do all the time? And the TV crew kinda helped a little by flying drones overhead, spooking them...

I think the comment earlier in that piece was the ice is a lot less. The walrus try find less crowded area's and end up where they wouldn't be a few years ago. Then the bears with drones come in.

I agree. I think the message that we are destroying the planet has got through by now. I have no problem with the message being highlighted but every other sentence is getting tiresome and distracts from the superb camera work and visual impact of the programme.
The bears climbing trees and breaking off the branches was superb!

Spotted last night a lad who I used to hang around with as a kid and lived over the road from me is heavily involved in the sound track and music production.

Not so sure, I think it needs getting through to many people still. We could get all sentimental of an animal doing animal stuff in a cute way for fabulous filming TV sake or look at its environment that is getting wrecked. Last weeks I think highlighted palm oil, it is in everything, from soap to ice cream. We are all buying it.

I think anyone interested in the natural world/wildlife/nature would both watch such a programme and also be very aware of what is going on. It just seems like selling coals to Newcastle. The travel programme on afterwards suffers the same interjections, usually with some morose plinky-plinky piano in the background, making it even more unbearable.

I definitely think there is space for some drier, objective reporting and also think there is a void when it comes to a. how UK is doing (not too badly) and b. reporting that involves discussion of solutions, technological or societal. (China's development of 4th gen salt reactors should be of interest yet we hear nothing of it for example - and on that, while mid-rant, why on earth aren't the UK spooling up similar - it will certainly be the market in the future).

Anyway, small beer I guess, and doesn't take much away from the beautiful work done by the team.

Depends what you read

https://polarbearscience.com/2019/09/01/walruses-c...

I know that source isn't exactly impartial but they do give references. Seals falling to their deaths doesn't seem to be anything new regardless of whether there are drones or bears egging them on.

Apparently overcrowded beaches are during ice-free season are a sign of healthy populations.

I have to say though, the deforestation and palm oil thing is pretty fking bad.

And agree that the doom and gloom messages what feels like every 3 minutes is terribly annoying. Even my wife, who is a proper geographer is sick of hearing it even though she agrees with most of it.

Just watching now as he's moaning about a dam built for clean, green power. That's no good either apparently.
