As it says on the header - what was the first filmyou saw in the cinema?

I think I was a bit of a late starter since, as far as I remember, my first was aged 13 seeing Star Wars. Mind = blown

Jurassic Park. Still my favourite film and the greatest cinema experience I've ever had. Been lucky enough to have since seen it at the Royal Albert Hall with a full orchestra, amazing.

'Planet Of The Apes' and one of the sequels in the school holidays, 1971, at our local Granada flea pit, happy days!

I think it was "Live and Let Die". Mention of the original "Planet of the Apes" films gave me a bit of doubt as I do recall seeing them, but I can't have seen the first one on release because that seems to be 1968, and I was 2. So maybe I saw them on the TV. Equally, though, we used to go to Butlins on holiday, and maybe they showed them there.

Wizard of Oz, early 60s in the old cinema which is now where the Thorndike Theatre in Leatherhead is.
Green witch, flying monkeys, I cried, we left early.

There are 3 in the running for me, I can't remember which one I saw first. I was 6 or 7 There was an intermission.

The Sound of Music. Aldershot Palace, The evening I came down with appendicitis. I don't think that was my first visit to a cinema though, so more likely;

Treasure Island. Southampton, my overriding memory is dad returning to his car, Austin 7 or Standard 8 to turn the wheels into the curb. We were parked on a hill. I spent the entire time worried about the car not being there when we came out. We would have been on holiday in Southsea.

Bambi. Southampton, I have a vague feeling it was a double bill with Treasure Island.

Happy days smile

Star Wars.

The first one, before all this prequel nonsense, at The Gaumont Cinema in Birmingham in 1978.

Afternoon matinee performance because I was only 5. Was amazed by the sheer size of the screen, the concept of another short film beforehand as a warm-up, and the interval after that where one could go and buy an ice-cream from a lady in the dark holding an illuminated tray.

This was all quite a bit to take in for my tender years, let alone all the Jedi business!

That was my 'first film watched on TV'.

Dad: "lads, you'll love this!" ... how right he was.

Seen it countless times since. My wife, 47 next week and not into cars in any way, has never seen it. Mental.
