A funny thing happened on the way to the forum was a comedy we used to watch a lot in my younger days. Not seen that anywhere in years.

Slither. Crime comedy with James Caan. I seem to remember it being on loads on a weekend back in the day. Not seen that in donkeys either.

Sharkys Machine, Gator, Hooper, etc.
Can't remember hooper or condorman being on in living memory, not even some obscure freeview channel.

Short circuit was in a couple of months ago and batteries not included was on last week.

Bullseye - think I've only ever seen it on TV once many years ago.

Will Hay films are often on Talking Pictures Tv.
Channel 81.
oh excellent, thank you
Talking Pictures is 328 on Sky with Retro Movies at 327. Both are worth checking if you like obscure films from the '40s and '50s.
Thank you for that, I too love the old Will Hay films, plus all the others. I even got my wife to sit down and watch a few of the Ealing comedy films, like Passport to Pimlico and Titfield Thunderbolt. Plus I have The Time Of Their Lives on DVD which I haven’t watched for a long time.

I just can’t get my children to watch them though which is a shame. My son refuses to watch anything older than about 5 minutes (except Star Wars), try and show him a black and white film and he immediately leaves the room.

Can't remember the last time I bought a DVD, but I just ordered Condorman (£2.99 delivered Amazon) knowing full well my girls will hate it and I'm likely to be disappointed...

Come to think of it National Lampoon stuff with the delightful Chevy Chase used to be always in some channel. Never see it now. Are they ticks away on Sky?

Also caddy shack x2

And Bigalways seemed to be on when I was a kid.

I'm watching Caddyshack on Netflix at the moment - have to say (IMO) it's not aged well at all

Animalympics, it wasn't a brilliant film but it was enjoyable and I'd watch it (or tape it) if it was on.
I rarely saw this on TV. I remember it being played for our Christmas movie at school. Not seen it in decades but always remember the running Lioness.

Anyway with Freeview, Sky, such movies will no longer make on to main terrestrial channels; either too dated*, too small and cult following or just not what the market is looking for (Avengers anyone?) Think how few people will watch Jason and the Argonauts* - with it’s now antiquated Skeleton fight scene - on ITV, that’s a lot of lost ad revenue.

I put down Trading Places. That was a popular Xmas one.

  • one of my favs and by the way, used to be on at Easter not Xmas wink

As a Chevy Chase fan Fletch and Fletch Lives have been on fairly recently. Caddyshack was or is on Amazon Firestick or Netflix.

Yeah the Lioness (falling on love with the goat) is one of the things I recall too. Funny you mentioned J&tA, that's one of the oldies that still appears on basic telly from time to time. I know I watched it within fairly recent memory, probably BBC2 as that seems to be the channel that shows more older films.

Even very few horror films get shown, especially at Halloween. When was the last time they showed any scary film or classic Hammer Horror film like Horror of Dracula or any Frankenstein film?. Despite Halloween being a massive marketing ploy and money msker for the wasting money public and the kids, when it comes to TV there's always zilch of anything horror films.
