as it says above what book (or series of books or comics) would you like to be given the HBO/Netflix treatment?

There are quite a few that spring to mind but two of the top ones would have to be:

Conan - R.E.Howard, 38 original books (plus more from other authors) so no need to have 'based on' or 'inspired by'.

The Drenei novels by David Gemmell

I'd imagine that Game of Thrones has shown that there is a market for well written 'adult fantasy' and (IMO) both of the above would be ripe for filming

One of the Iain M. Banks Culture novels, or a William Gibson novel, maybe Snow Crash, Neuromancer or Pattern Recognition.

Marvel UK's Death's Head and/or Dragon's Claws. Written by UK Transformers writer Simon Furman during the late 80's with both were 10 issue runs.

To me, Death's Head is the coolest looking comic character (and my fave) especially in his original green attire.

Not sure what you mean by the bit in bold there?

I've often considered how great it would have been to have a full TV series of the Tom Clancy Jack Ryan books - I'm enjoying the new take on it certainly, but there was so much depth in the originals that wasn't able to translate over to the Hollywood 2-hour movie format.

in many cases all script writers seem to do is take the name and write some total bks which bears no resemblance to the source material (yes Dungeons and Dragons I'm looking at you! #stillbitter)

OH ok, I see what you mean,.

But they do that, because they have to - there's a huge amount that rides on who is credited as the writer/s for films and TV, and if they got source material from somewhere else, they have to credit that person as well. It does differ between films and TV slightly, and between countries. Even down to things like whether or not they use the word "and" or the ampersand symbol "&" in the credits. Script, Story, Screenplay and Characters are all different as well.

+1

Another George MacDonald Fraser book that I'm surprised hasn't been picked up is 'Mr American.'

Rich American with possibly not honestly obtained fortune arrives in Edwardian UK and gets mixed up with the great and good, including an elderly Flashman. Discovers that the British Aristocracy could give Wild West outlaws lessons in ruthlessness.

Setting would appeal to the Downton Abbey crowd, but the plot and backstory would appeal to many more.

Stephen Baxter's 'Time ships' could make several series. His 'Moonseed' seems to be written with an eye on a film version.

What about the story of Jesus?

Starting with episode 1 and the virgin Mary finding out she’s preggers. Joseph getting pissed off and calling her all sorts. Then god appearing and giving Joseph a whack and telling him to sit down and stfu and explaining he’s the father.

Surely episode one is where two naked people kept captive and in ignorance gain some knowledge that allows them to escape, get a whole planet to themselves, and start having sex. Then God appears and explains that this is somehow a bad thing.
