Very good, in a Chernobyl under the waves kind of way (which I hope isnt too much of a spoiler for anyone).
Interestingly it doesn't show Putin, who stayed on holiday.

Just had the email through that the second season of Altered Carbon drops a week tomorrow rotateclap

If sci fi is your thing (or even if it's not), please give the first season a go if you haven't already. A Noir Bladerunner vibe. It's really, really good.
Really enjoyed S1 of Altered Carbon so thanks for the heads-up re: S2, will definitely be watching that.

Just finished The Stranger last night, some strong performance - especially from Paul Kaye - but ultimately disappointed, story was rushed at the end with lots of loose ends and plot holes.

The neighbour's son can't act, the detective's side-kick was just annoying, the back-story of the main detective splitting up with her hubby was irrelevant.

An interesting story, but not done well.

I enjoyed it but as always the conclusion was no-where near as good as the tension leading up to it. Agree Paul Kaye stole the show thankfully, thought the rest were fairly middling - I like Siobhan Finneran but she didn't convince me as a detective.

Finished The Stranger last night and honestly it was all a bit ‘meh’. The car chase was awful, the acting from the sweaty kid was terrible, the story was far too condensed and the whole thing felt like it should have been twice as long to give it some time to develop each plot point. Paul Kaye was the only highlight.

Or half as long to give us time to watch something better?

Maybe but I think the problem was that in the 8 episodes there was 3 or 4 key plot points in each one, it was too many. If it had been one point per episode it could have had more depth and felt less frantic.

Either way it wasn’t as great as people had been making out. Safe was better.

He must be a friend of the producer or something. How else would he have made it past casting/auditions. Absolutely terrible acting.

I did laugh at one point though - when the teenagers were sitting in the grey 19-plate MK4 focus opposite the sick girl's house - they dulled-down the side of the car with wax or grease or something as the tracking-shot alongside the car would have reflected the camera/cameraman otherwise.

That's Sky (Atlantic) & NowTV.
We don't have that here in NZ.
I thought that might be the case. Babylon Berlin isn't on Netflix UK.

Watched the first couple of episodes of You last night. Pretty good, a bit Dexter-esque.

Anyone mentioned 'Cheer'? It's a series about competitive cheerleading in the U.S.

Camper than a Scout Jamboree, Cheer follows the defending champs as they train for the U.S National final.
Like all of these well crafted reality shows, it draws one in as the stories behind the protagonists are revealed.

I was surprised by how dangerous some of the stunts are. They are far more complicated than those performed by the cheerleaders on college sports touchlines.
Falls, spills and injuries are common. The bravery, especially of some of the women, who are hurled around to dizzying heights at frightening speeds is remarkable.

Compelling stuff.

Was mentioned in the previous thread, a few of us watched it due to SWMBOs but ended up enjoying it, as you say compelling viewing

Narcos Mexico S2 finished last night. Very good but I thought a bit of a rushed conclusion.

S3 is set up quite nicely.

Not out yet and the trailer text just says coming soon, Transformers - War For Cybertron. Set as a prequel to THE Transformers movie, It's the G1 transformers models, not the Michael Bay ones. Animation looks like it's cel shaded CG.

Just finished Locke & Key, really enjoyable. Definitely got a Stranger Things vibe about it, especially near the end, but a very enjoyable series.

Don't know if its been mentioned but I watched 'Lucky Cow' a film with Maxine Peak about a female comedian, trying to make it in the 70s in Northern England - it's very good but don't be expecting a comedy, it's really quite bleak.
