I watched DoH Ep1 on Forces TV the other night and remarked to the missus "worth signing up for a tour of Helmand if you get to watch this!"

Series link set!

For those of you wanting full DoH nerdery, get shopping at Cooters! https://cootersplace.com/pages/shop-cooters

Annoyingly, I can't series link it. I think the channel have fked up something because series link isn't available, but I can still series link all kinds of other stuff on other channels.
I went to set the recorder for the episodes next weekend, and it's offering series link now.

Woohoo! The 'V' box recorded the episodes as requested. I got to watch the first two episodes last night after my wife was called in at work.

I'd definitely never seen those early episodes before. So much better than the later series which were far more set-bound than the early ones. The real town locations for these episodes really worked. I can see why studio backlots were preferred in terms of cost, but location shooting just gives things a realism that was hard to replicate on a purpose (and cheaply) built set back in the 1980s. I'm looking forward to watching the rest now too. Whoever brought this to our attention? Thank you! thumbup

Just watched episode 3. Continuity obviously wasn't much of a priority for the producers!

No General Lee in this episode, the Duke Boys were in a car borrowed from Cooter, only it was the wrong car they'd borrowed, and it was full of Moonshine. Hilarity ensued when Sheriff Roscoe was in "hot puuuursuit" (again), trying to catch them Good Ol' Boys in possession of the illicit liquor in order to bust their probation and send them straight back to jail, which led to them ditching it out of the windows. Ironically, it was Boss Hogg's liquor they was spilling in the dirt.

Anyway, fast forward a little, and the boys pick up a young pregnant woman. She turns out to have connections to some Atlanta gangsters, who want (a lot of) their money back. In their first encounter, the Bo and Luke smash the passenger side door off the black car the gangsters are driving. Later on the boys are back at Uncle Jessie's. Jessie is delivering a baby when the gangsters turn up. As they pass the farm and spot the Duke Boys' car outside, they pull up and both bad guys open and shut their doors as they get out. Even the 'boss' in hte passenger seat - the very passenger seat that had it's door smashed off by Bo and Luke not half an hour earlier...

...I know that the stunts wrecked cars, and that many vehicles played one role in a sequence, with dents in the General Lee appearing, disappearing, and moving around the car a lot, but surely the continuity chaps ought to have spotted such a glaring error as a door that miraculously re-fits itself after being smashed off it's hinges in an earlier scene?

It's fun watching Season 1 for the first time, through older eyes. But neither my wife, nor my son, are particularly impressed with the quality of the scripts, the acting, or the general production values. Bloody philistines! rolleyes

Funny, I loved both this and Knight Rider in the 1980s during my childhood. I have all the Knight Rider DVDs and can still enjoy watching them even now, with just a wry smile at how dated it looks.

However about three years ago, my sister bought me a D of H DVD box set and i remember sitting down to watch them, feeling sure I'd love them still as much as i do Knight Rider. However, i came away with two distinct observations:

(1) It really was a bit cheesy and wooden and hasn't really stood the test of time.
I loved everything with American cars in it back in my youthful days of the 70s and 80s. Rockford Files (THAT Firebird... lovely) and Starsky And Hutch, along with DoH... although never really 'got' Knight Rider'. I can't think there will be too much from those times that will stand up to modern audiences, in truth.

(2) Daisy Duke. Oh. My. God. Daisy Duke. In my defence, I was only about 11 when the show finished and far more interested in the General Lee than some girl, but - WOW! Also, how in god's name did she get away with some of those outfits at prime time?!
Even as a pre-teen she made me feel a bit giddy whenever she appeared. Utterly, utterly fabulous. I'd also agree that you'd probably not see something so overtly sexual/teasing on a prime-time TV series now.

I was a little too young to notice her at the time (born in 1977). I was more interested in the General Lee, but I'm sure my Dad was able to appreciate her.

By the time Baywatch arrived I was very much interested...

Thanks to this thread I’m now watching episode 1 which I recorded last night.

There’s a chase scene near the end where the boys are driving around the town, and at one point they drive past another General Lee that’s parked up! (I assume this is probably well known to all the proper DoH nerds)
I finally got around to watching Ep1 last night, and noticed the same thing - perhaps because you mentioned it. Also the big dent in the back wing that suddenly disappeared, and the way that Daisy manages to disappear from a driving seat while a piano hits the car, then re-appear moments later. And all the pointless car chases round and around the same little car park or scrapyard.

Still, it was still pretty watchable, which I haven't found to be the case with some stuff of that vintage.

I can't remember whether I ever saw the very first one back in the day. Some parts of it seemed familiar, but I'm sure I'd have remembered that they had - for some reason that was never mentioned - Starsky's Gran Torino, complete with stripe, in this episode.

I can understand your wife not being so keen on fast cars and Daisy Duke's butt - but your son?

I'm still watching these in the order they put them on forces, having been a huge fan in my younger days I can say I'm really enjoying it again.

Continuity is terrible, always the same story and the ranch they used for filming is becoming a but monotonous however my little one loves it.

I have always wanted a general Lee since being a kid, I drove one last year at one of those driving days, it was terrible!! Should never meet your heroes!!

What keeps coming up is how no American car of that era in the show can pull away without huge wheelspin, even when not for show, must have been frustrating.

Since getting back into it it's led to hours of YouTube viewing of general Lee resto's and the history of Lee 1 quite interesting.
