I'm led to believe that Mears does not have a high opinion of Grylls. Was'nt he also brought it to track down raoul moat?
I am not surprised. Mears for me was always easy watching , pleasant, and as I have said before, totally devoid of false jeopardy, which for me is a big thing.
Trouble is people want more, so you have to go bigger , which is not better, IMO, so you end up with Grylls and Ed Stafford and god knows who else .
I think he still has something to offer, but you wont get it made because he isn't exciting enough any more, which is a shame.
Its ironic that his type of content is blowing up on You Tube, some great stuff to enjoy for exactly the same reason that Mears made it popular.
Ed Stafford is very genuine. He turned up with two waterproof bags of kit, and straight from the airport asked to be dropped off in the jungle and that was it. No security, no team, just him. And he is also the only person to have walked the length of the Amazon. Much respect.
Bear Grylls on the other hand... Fake as fake can be. Filmed just behind the local zoo. Checked into hotel rather than roughing it. Got a photo of him somewhere tucking into picnic with the (large) backup crew.
Don't watch TV much (thankfully) but a family member at ITV on the other night watching a gameshow (I think it was Celebrity Catchphrase) and one of the contestants was that Jenny Faulkener. I remember thinking to myself "what happened to her, she was never off the TV years ago" and I couldn't remember what she used to present.

I watched ( well I say watched, she had it on) .. 'Pointless Celebrities' the other day, never has a program been more aptly named. Jukebag said:

Wiki suggests she mainly presented on morning TV shows, but nothing since the the Lorraine show in 2015.I do wish Lorraine Kelly would become a celeb that disappeared!!

The difference between Ray Mears and Bear Grylls is like the difference between F1 and banger racing.

Jenni Falconer presented the pre-breakfast show on Heart until 2019.Johnspex said:
I suggested Ray Mears on here a few months ago and someone responded that he was working with the British armed forces teaching survival.

Odd analogy. Which is which and why? The difference between Ray Mears and Bear Grylls is like the difference between F1 and banger racing.

Mears is F1 exciting enough naturally and classy. Grylls' programmes are full of extra artificial excitement. But yes, a bad analogy.

. Ah yes my mistake. I mean the Tuckers Luck one
He did have a few fairly major roles post Tuckers Luck. He was in Eastenders for ages and subsequently the Bill.Although given the Bill hasn't been on for ages I suppose he does count as having disappeared.
