I'm sure I've read somewhere that Seagal was the 'fight scene choreographer' on Never Say Never Again and broke Sean Connery's wrist.

I agree. I was just asserting Seagal was bloody good at his thing and personally, I always enjoyed his fight scenes much more than jumping spinning back kicks and all that kickboxer bollix!!
I always found his fight scenes pretty dull, mostly just getting someone in a wristlock and kicking them, or the old trope of them pointing a weapon at him, then walking straight into range so it can be easily grabbed.

Mostly true (Sean Connery 1990's interview) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=147&am...

Each to their own brother man. I probably have an element of built in bias as someone who has practiced grappling arts and couldn't do a jumping spinning kick for love nor money...

Same here.

Aikido close control stuff has a time and place, as well as looking dead cool and mystical, but I wouldn't want to rely on it.

My father and I had a theory that Stephen Seagal is very good at martial arts and could easily put us on the ground. The trouble was that his martial at looks a lot like a 3 year old girl slapping people. He used to mix it up a bit with the addition of sharpened credit cards.

Just finished watching another one of Steven Seagal's utterly, utterly st films and it got me wondering... had there ever been a worse headline action 'star'?
I have given this much thought.

No.

I just think it is well suited to film, looks effortless and realistic unlike these ridiculous kicks etc you get from other action stars. Guess the public must have liked it as Seagal was massive for a short period!!

The thing is I remember Under Siege as being a kickass movie of my youth. Like Die Hard on water.

It's everything else I've seen him in that I can't stand. I would wonder if Under Siege was written with another star in mind, but it's not the case apparently.

It's still a good movie now IMO.

It's the only Seagal film you ever need to watch, but it only works because it also had Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Beusey hamming it up. Plus that scene with the girl coming out of the cake.

And the throwing knives... .

Although Nico was quite good (Sharon Stone, Pam Grier), Under Siege was better.

Erika Eleniak..... Under Siege was a gift from the gods to any teenage boy who wondered what ‘they’ might look like after her appearance in the opening credits of Baywatch. As an aside, EE was also the girl kissed by Eliot in ET

I watched that at a friend's house when we were way too young......and couldn't quite understand why that scene was so oddly captivating

I liked Under Siege (TLJ and Busey really make the film though) and even the sequel on the train was OK, but Stephen Seagal in anything after those was a total joke.

Jason Statham, though, is an actor that marks any film as 'must miss' for me, although I do admit to watching (and quite enjoying) 'The Meg' on a plane once!

Statham I like in the right films, I've not been too fussed with the F and F films, but crank 1 and 2 are great entertainment!
Other than the usual 80's suspects, Vin diesel I'd go with, though I'd probably say "uninspiring" rather than terrible.
I'm actually struggling to think of anyone truly terrible at the moment!
I do enjoy the fact that seagal got second billing on that sky listing to DMX hehe

I think Statham's got some got some good scenes in The Transporter movies and a film called Wildcard. The latter is a remake of the Burt Reynolds flick Heat.
