Hard Target, classic mullet, over the top baddie, gorgeous girl and explosions galore.

The Mauritanian

7/10. Exploring the operation of Guantanamo Bay. Naturally a BBC film as no American studio would touch such a topic depicting the US as the bad-guy.

Would honestly have been better without BenderCumberbot as a lead with the forced Alabama accent, which just distracted.

Great performance by Jodi Foster as you'd expect. Proper eye-opener for the american fam.

On the plus side cinema was about 10-15% capacity and nice to have others in there with us.

The Favourite - Disney Star.

Billed as a comedy, but more of a historical political intrigue light. Great performances from the three leading ladies and the end scene is reminiscent of Bob Hoskins in the car at the end of Long Good Friday

Saint Maud (2019)

Dull bizarre bks. Truly the worst film I have seen recently, no real storyline or plot, nothing much happens for most of the film, and then it ends just as bizarrely.

1/10. Avoid.

Not a recent film, but I watched Passengers in Amazon prime last night.
It got pretty poor reviews when it came out but I don't know why as I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a big budget sci-fi with the usual plot holes aplenty, but it looks great, had some interesting moral dilemmas and has Jennifer Lawrence in a bikini. What's not to like?

4L - Netflix

A road-trip caper from Spain to Timbuktu in a desert rally-spec Renault 4. It's not great but it's not bad. There are a few funny scenes. Jean Reno is the lead.

Great film. A Western by any other name featuring a drifter with a mysterious past. Slip the knife, spin hook kick whacks evil henchman through window. biggrin

Nomadland

3/10

V Depressing film about lady who's husband dies and has to live in a van scraping jobs to get by.

Somehow got best drama at golden globes?!?

Empire of the Sun.

Time has taken it from an 8/10 to a 6/10 IMO.

Still a watchable film though smile
Interesting. I seem to remember it getting so-so reviews when it came out but I've watched it several times over the years and it gets better with every viewing. Underrated I think, unusually for a Spielberg movie.

Award winners often don't make sense if you are looking for objective results. It's often the political message that matters.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

I knew pretty much nothing about this film but thought I'd give it a go.

Long, quite low-key, and quite slow, but kept me engaged the whole way through. Masterfully put together IMHO. 9/10.

When Harry Met Sally (DVD)

Two really annoying people meet and gradually get slightly less annoying as they get older. Actually surprisingly watchable, and way older than I thought (1989! I'd have placed it mid nineties). Carrier Fisher and very young Meg Ryan make it 5/10.

Yup - I used to find this frustrating.

I don't know if it will help but there's an app and website Just Watch which I find really useful for sorting out what I can watch on the few different services I have available.... and I am always forgetting where I started watching a series too, so this can be helpful as well as flagging up all new releases (again, limited just to the subs I currently have) ....

+1 for Justwatch. A searchable TV guide app for Freeview or whatever live TV you have is useful too, in case something is coming up on Film4 etc in the next week.

Worth pointing out (again) that if you Google for "watch" followed by the film or series title, it will tell you which services are currently showing it.

Likewise if you Google for "define" followed by a word, it will give you the dictionary definition for it.
