The Hitmans Bodyguard
So generic and by the numbers I actually found myself thinking that I'd seen it before. The traitor in the midst was so obvious he might as well have been wearing a t shirt saying "I am an evil mole!", loads of expendable terrorists getting shot with cgi blood, Ryan Reynolds looking gormless because he's in love, Samuel L Jackson saying "Muddy Funster" every other word, the way the big bad evil got his comeuppance. Wash and repeat.
The only good things were Jackson & Reynolds comic timing, the stunt work was good and the European locations were different for this kind of film.

I watched that the other night and you’re right about how all ‘by the numbers’ it was but I actually really enjoyed it. Thought the action sequences were very well put together with plenty of clever twists/tweaks on the usual cliches wile somehow still being quite cliched. So generic and by the numbers I actually found myself thinking that I'd seen it before. I always wonder how Oldman feels about movies like this given his serious record, does he just chew the scenery and have a bit of fun?
Back on the film and my other abiding memory is that Salma Hayek is still hot.

Airforce 2
Vice presidents aircraft goes down after being struck by lightening (despite taking no obvious damage). VP, female secret service agent and 2 reporters survive and swim to a nearby island, where men in cammo and vests immediately start shooting at them. VP is an ex marine, female agent is very good but has a beef with the female reporter...
I gave up at that point.

Old
Is it good? Not really. Did I enjoy it? Yes!
Great concept, awful script. Kept me on the edge of my seat wondering how bad the situation would get, but the characterisation and dialogue really is dreadful at times.
I know with Shyalaman everyone talks about the 'twist' and this one has seen a lot of discussion too. I think twist is a stretch though, it's more of a reveal which has been fairly bluntly telegraphed during the preceeding hour.
So yeah, I wouldn't expect many to like it, but personally I love it when a director swings for the fences, and say what you like about him but he'll always do that. He may miss a fair bit (but Signs is a top 20 for me, adore it) but I'd much rather that than a dull slasher or the awfully generic high concept stuff that Netflix churns out on a weekly basis.

Jolt wasn't horrible. Ten times better than anything Ryan Reynolds has done recently, including 6-underground, and both of the Hitman films.
Predictable, yes. Nice to watch Kate Beckinsale, yes. A bit annoying that they acknowledged her as a Brit and then made her find driving "stick" difficult.
Still, not the worst thing I've seen of late (that would be the aforementioned Hitman 2 thing, despite it having Salma on board).
Not sure anyone can spoil this film but just in case anyone cares...
WHY do they employ the same ol' actors to play bad guys? I knew how it would turn out as soon as I saw "him", despite the role he initially played. It was just so obvious how he'd end up.

Plus it was all filmed in the same 3 streets/block! Very dull....
Not even a street, it was the Paramount Studios back lot.Been there a few times so I recognized it straight away.

Disagree with the rave reviews for Casino, felt very formulaic, had zero empathy for any of the characters, MTV does gangster...for me its one of Scorceses weaker movies, cliche after cliche going through the motiions.
It’s a great film, made better by staying reasonably true to the real life events. darreni said:

The Handmaiden
Directed by Park Chan Wook of Oldboy fame and his vengeance trilogy of films.
Not really into period dramas and was intrigued what Park was up to in recent years. Went into it not knowing anything much about the movie and ended up really enjoying it.
Seven octopus tentacles out of eight.
Reminded me of another movie I hadn't seen in a long time, Bound. I think I'm gonna have to watch it tonight

I saw it a few years back when it was on Amazon. Directed by Park Chan Wook of Oldboy fame and his vengeance trilogy of films.

It's intriguing and rather different. Quite steamy in places as I recall, and the octopus stuff was rather disturbing. But definitely worth a watch.

There is a Japanese thing about octopus sex (ie tentacle / woman action). Some famous art/drawings has it. I think it even has a name (although I’ve forgotten it). You get references to it in manga/anime (probably more than references in Hentai manga). Not sure why there is such a fascination with cephalopods.
