My mate's just gone and seen it at Cineworld in Southampton and he swears it's a bootlegged movie they're showing as all of it was massively out of focus - and he knows his film an cinema stuff - and is a big John Wick (and cinema in general) fan ...

How was the quality of your film's showing - pin sharp?
Some, if not most, cinemas don't give a crap about things like that. I've sat through out of focus films before, really annoying.
It could be the state of the glass between the projector room and the auditorium too. If you've ever sat near the back and looked round you'll know what I mean.

Odd Thomas ... Wow. It's been in my Amazon queue for ages as I'd heard it was criminally overlooked and for once they were right. Solid plot, great leads and a fantastic ending. It really should have propelled Anton Yelchin into the stratosphere. It's failure and his tragic death makes it even more poignant.

A very rare 10 ghosts out of 10 tubs of ice cream

Fall (Netflix)

Two girls climb up a 2,000 feet tall TV mast. Things go predictably wrong.

Not terrible, but you do need to suspend a bit of your disbelief at times.

Vertigo inducing at some points.

I thought the CGI was sufficiently poor/disregarded that after they'd climbed the first half of the ladder, I got no vertigo from it at all. If they'd managed to maintain a sense of danger or even of height, it may have made the whole movie a little less meh.

I know you'll say "Height?!?! They were on top of a tower!", but it never felt 'risky'. Why was there no wind at 2000 feet? Why didn't the platform wave about a bit?

Oh, and why were those satellite dishes not at the top of the tower? What was the additional 100 feet for?

The Girl on a Train. Not too shabby once we’d worked out who was who after all the flashbacks etc …

Labyrinth
(The one with David Bowie)

Not my choice, but I wasn't opposed to the idea as I've kind of always wanted to watch it but never got round to it.

Rather dated, The plot is your standard Hero's Journey, and Jennifer Connelly can't act for toffee, but it had its moments (most of which were courtesy of Jim Henson's Creature Workshop)

Everything everywhere at once

Like a few others here, am sure acting is great and all that, but gave up after about 30m. Nonsense.

Avatar 2

Not great but also not as bad as some reviews would have you believe. I've seen much-much worse.

Furies - Netflix

Vietnamese action film, which looks to be a prequel to Furie from a couple years ago.

The wife of a murdered gangster assembles a Charlie's Angels trio of female teenage assassins to take revenge on the mobster that killed her husband and child.

Less story than the original but a bigger budget means more fight scenes, more gore and violence.

There's a cool motorbike chase scene and the fight sequences are almost Raid like.

Enjoyable action flick.

Shazam Fury of the Gods. Disappointing. Dodgy CGI cars on the bridge in the first set piece, apart from that I have all the same problems with it as the Pitch Meeting

in all honesty I'm not sure what to make of it. It is grim (a fair chunk of rape and attempted child rape) some of the action is quite good but I had to bail at 40 minutes, it was tiring

I seldom watch films now; I tend to just watch the Pitch Meeting

I find it super-easy. Barely an inconvenience

I piled the old Shazam looking forward to this one, really refreshing in this very overdone genre.

John Wick 4 at the cinema. Tosh and nonsense, but entertaining. One scene set in a Paris apartment filmed from above was quite novel. Otherwise, it is just more of the same. As is remarked upon by the slimy French baddie, Mr Wick has nothing to live for, nothing to die for, and nothing to kill for...

But plenty to keep making films for. biggrin

In fairness, it's no worse than all the Comic Book Superhero dross that clogs up the cinemas
