Films I watched this week (NO SPOILERS) (Vol 3)
Discussion
A couple of Churchill films.
Darkest hour is very good, proper entertaining film, very Hollywood style.
Churchill. This is very bleaker but i think watching both gives you a better picture, Churchill wasn't perfect, he made mistakes, but that is human, and the human frailty was his biggest strength in inspiring others, and the network of friends he had, his wife. I think he kept Britain as we enjoy today and even with his flaws should still be remembered as one of the greats. Really surprised we don't have a Churchill bank holiday.

Finally got around to watching Moonage Daydream, the Bowie biopic from last year (Amazon Prime)
Thought it was superb
Oddly, I was never a particular fan of Bowie, a sort of drag queen slash model who made phenomenal music but who l never really identified with (more T.Rex, Roxy, Alice Cooper, Queen) so it came across as a bit of an arty-farty documentary. Art but not much substance.Thought it was superb
I was expecting a film though, not a documentary.
Still sad that his legacy ends up as Ed Sheeran and Sam Whotsitsface.

Re-watched the Black Widow Marvel movie.
Saw it not long after it came out and thought it was so "Meh" that I couldn't really recall any of the plot. For some reason, 2nd time round I enjoyed it far more and got far more of the "family" humor and funny bits.
I found it much better second time around as well.Saw it not long after it came out and thought it was so "Meh" that I couldn't really recall any of the plot. For some reason, 2nd time round I enjoyed it far more and got far more of the "family" humor and funny bits.

Black Adam
Not sure what to make of this. Took me two attempts to finish which is unusual for me.
The Rock is his usual self - I feel he's committed to the role and knows what his character is, even if I was unsure myself!
The rest of the cast, mostly the Justice Society - wtf? Who are these clowns and how do they hope to stand up to a God (essentially) who can take a missile in the face and essentially halt time? Atom Smasher was annoying (the actor is better in the Recruit) and I'm not even sure what the Poison Ivy chick was there for or what her powers were. Some back story would have helped. Where did the technology for the bikes/ jets come from?
Action scenes were not-amazing CGI, but to be expected really.
Overall not awful, but uninspiring and won't justify a re-watch.
6/10

the group of super heroes felt like a rip off of marvel. I really do think it is time to more on , comic book stuff has jumped the shark massively. Not sure what to make of this. Took me two attempts to finish which is unusual for me.

The Justice Society is actually one of the oldest comic teams. First published in 1940, the JLA and Avengers didn't start until the 60s.
It is odd to throw them all into a movie with no explanation though.
Alessandro Cruto created one of the first light bulbs, but Edison came along later did a better job. That is what happened here, who cares who thought of it first people just who laid the story enmasse. It is odd to throw them all into a movie with no explanation though.
The Enforcer (2022) with Antonio Banderas - bit of a nothing film to be honest. Wasn't good, wasn't bad, I didn't dislike it... you get the idea 4/10
Dungeons and Dragons: Honour among Thieves - now I'm aware that there are a lot on here who will hate this film, and that's ok. Personally I loved it. It's not a great film, but it's enjoyable and at no point did I feel I was being preached at. There were easter-eggs galore for the geeks, it was shot through with humour so that the non-geeks would find at least something humourous and I felt that the SFX were, by and large, jaw-dropping. No it's not Westeros or 'The Shire/Mordor', nor is it attempting to be - this is everything that 2002 abortion with Jeremy Irons was not.

Prometheus 1080p bluray disc.
I watch it every year, every year it gets better with age but the cuts Scott made to the original film towards the end regarding the engineer make me feel bitter more as time passes.
8.5/10
Better in what respect? I watch it every year, every year it gets better with age but the cuts Scott made to the original film towards the end regarding the engineer make me feel bitter more as time passes.
8.5/10
I find it utterly unwatchable. Plot holes you could drive the Nostromo through and so-called scientists making poor decisions that even children wouldn't make
It's one of the worst junk science films ever
But it does look nice with great cinematography. Maybe that's what you meant.

Watched a couple of films over the last few days
The Green Mile - not much more to say that's not already been said but it had been a while since I last watched it and forgot just how good it is. A solid 9 Percy pigs out of 10.
Where the Crawdads Sing - interesting film picked by MrsJ220 and being honest I quite enjoyed it. It felt a bit long but good story. Very watchable. Kept me hooked throughout which is quite rare. 6.5
