Just idly flicking through some of the Youtubers channel overviews some observations:

SOL is not doing too bad. Despite having the most savage comments section looking at his last dozen or so videos he's managing

JWW is pretty much smashing it

Tyrells classic workshop has a very good sub to view ratio

STG is slowly building up some solid view counts well deserved too I think

However...he's just there quietly beavering away making consistently solid content and absolutely smashing it ....Arise Sir Harry Metcalfe getting mega views on almost all uploads looks pretty similar to Shmee's view counts. Great stuff.

Didn't someone post a while back that Youtube ad revenue had declined considerably?

That would probably explain why so many channels are scrabbling round for additional revenue (shilling crap products, raffles etc).

Those that seem to me going from strength to strength are those where the channel is not a primary revenue source for the owner (Harry's garage and Iain Tyrell are good examples).

These channels can afford to focus on quality not quantity.

I've also enjoyed Jayemm's videos, he's got a prodigious workrate but above all he comes across as honest and is not afraid to criticise cars at the risk of alienating press departments.

Maybe viewers are just getting fed up with a lot of the 'lifestyle' car vloggers now?. I don't expect Henry Catchpole / Chris Harris levels of detail on the cars handling but the unwillingness to criticise for fear of not being invited on the next press launch leads to dreary vanilla content which is just vapid.

Which funnily enough was Harris' main gripe with influencers when he spoke to STG on the collecting cars podcast in 2019.

One of reasons I find Savage Geese such an enjoyable channel to watch is they seem to be honest in their opinions.

Despite actually having more time than ever to watch YouTube videos, I find myself watching less and less British automotive content.

I know it's been hard to travel so much, but Harry and jayemm still do a great job. It's the non-review stuff that I just can't get engaged in now. The north Americans and Russians doing hands on stuff is much better.

Tend to find myself watching more bitcoin/economy interviews & yachting adventures.

You can tell he's a nice guy but he is incredibly irritating if you're not in the mood for watching him!

I find his channel frustrating more than anything as he's clearly a talented driver and has a niche that none of the others have, but he still insists on following the same buy/wrap/exhaust/sell routine which got boring years ago.

If you look at the last 30 days view counts, archie is easily beating sam, tge, paul etc and is up there with james.

You know who's beating James by a significant margin? Jayemm.

And Mischa is ahead of Jay.

Given that the ring isn't open, Mischa is still managing to put out plenty of varied content.
I also quite like the fact that he doesn't own any exotic cars himself and gone down that YT route.

Congratulations James M, delighted you're getting such good results.

Thanks- I would have liked the channel to have been doing better by now - views are not dramatically different vs this time last year.

However I hope with this summer interest in car content will pick up again.

I may be doing a video reveal of my new car tomorrow, and I really don't know how this one is gonna go down...

Don’t get me wrong I’m no fan of his churns although did enjoy his on track stuff. Just feel it does him no favours when his ‘mates’ constantly nail him. Really feels like would be bad for his YT figures

He doesn't help himself sometimes either. Watched one of his videos lately and he was in his BMW M8 and bemoaning a false tyre pressure warning that kept popping up, yet the display was showing that the pressures were all over the place. You'd think he'd know about the importance of tyre pressures as a racing driver!

Jayemm has got a clever approach in that because he has reviewed so many different types of cars, he is always there or thereabouts in the search results. Search for a 997 GTS he'll be in the search results ditto a 997 Turbo, 911 Clubsport etc. etc. Personally, I am not a fan of his style, but I can understand that he only has a short time with the cars and therefore has to make the most of it. That said, I thought his Porsche GT car episode was very good - he was just talking in that video rather than trying to talk, drive and review at the same time.

I know many here don't like James, but this is a very informative video on painting a car, I knew there is quite a bit of work that goes into painting but nothing like this!
