Can’t say I’ve ever felt the need to question the production quality. Doubt you have either yet YouTube makes it fair game it seems.
Hmmm. Never commented on the quality of anything outside your industry then? Right. And yet the TG thread is how many pages long of people calling it st? Maybe pop in there and suggest everyone try to present it?
Anyway it is what it is. In my opinion, Shmee's content feels half arsed compared to his peers. Complacency is a disease that can set in almost undetected.

How many times in the TG thread do people say “should definitely have more camera angles, other TV shows have them!!!!” ?And yet the TG thread is how many pages long of people calling it st? Maybe pop in there and suggest everyone try to present it?

OK got you so everything is up for critique apart from the cinematography. Oh and generally people love the cinematography of TG but you're correct we should neither praise nor criticise it. Off limits. I'll try to remember your rules.

Love the experts on here banging on about people phoning it in - I assume your channels are doing very well since you’re so well versed in how to do YouTube
Ahh yes I presume you never comment on how good a BBC TV show is? Or I guess you must make TV shows. Not really a stretch to critique the seeming lack of effort compared to other channels is it?
Look at Jayemm, always has at least a couple of drive by shots and has multiple external cameras, exhaust mics etc. Shmee only ever has 2 shots one of his face and one looking forward, many people here have criticised his reviews as boring maybe that's part of the reason. Constructive criticism should always be welcomed tbh.

I honestly don't know why Tim doesn't get a RWB 911, there would be a huge amount of content in the build of the car and the car would also be a draw on videos and where he took the car, also a merch opportunity, it would be a keeper car as well and a permanent Porsche in the garage.
The RWB fad has already died in the Western part of the world. It's overdone and people don't care.honda_exige said:
Joe has plenty of external rolling shots and is much more adept at describing how the car drives.
Shmee by comparison is just phoning it in at this point. There's been little to no evolution in his content. No drive to seemingly improve his art. Even Harry dumps his missus at the roadside to film some drivebys.

Am I allowed to criticise the cinematography on Top Gear?
I could do a scathing job of Car Trek's camerawork and grade
But I think the number of audience who appreciate quality camerawork is very small. Other channels do it better than me, mine is what I consider functional
People are free to critique whoever and whatever they like, my point was that for your channel as an example you at least include external mics, external cameras, a driveby even though I assume you're a one man band on a lot of these videos. Shmee we get 2 views everytime, that's it. No effort to improve with time. It gets a bit dull to watch tbh. I could do a scathing job of Car Trek's camerawork and grade

I think it's Carfection which does it best.jon- said:
I'm starting to regret spending a lot of money taking camera men and drone operators with me lol.
Usually, the videos I put the least effort into seem to do the best, but like Sam it's a bit of a personal thing, I want to watch pretty content so I try and make it.
A few years ago Shmee put out some highly polished videos, well edited and with drone photography. One example I remember is https://youtu.be/7dvCO9hVC_gUsually, the videos I put the least effort into seem to do the best, but like Sam it's a bit of a personal thing, I want to watch pretty content so I try and make it.
Those videos got no more views than videos of him chatting on his sofa or in his garage for 20 minutes. When he participated in this thread it was clear that he studies the analytics and follows the money. It is fair to assume that his current output is what he believes generates the funds to support a very expensive car collection.

I once offered to help paul film and said I could bring my drone etc to get nice shots. He knew back then (this was probably 4 years ago) it didn't get him any extra views, but did cost a lot in time and effort, plus if you do it too much your audience comes to expect it and it's harder to go back.

I think Tom (tge) figured this out a while ago too, it was a lot easier for him to make some carpark vids and they did better views than some of the higher effort vids so why bother with the fancy stuff.Usually, the videos I put the least effort into seem to do the best, but like Sam it's a bit of a personal thing, I want to watch pretty content so I try and make it.
On another note I really enjoy the carswithluke channel, his videos in the swiss alps are beautifully filmed and edited.

Just flicking through new vids on YouTube can't help but notice that Shmee seems to be way below the top channels now in views, the big US channels like Cleetus, Stradman and DDE doing 5-600k Views in 12 hours, Whistlin Diesel doing 1.6million in a day compared to Shmee doing 55k yet the monetary value of his collection dwarfs those channels especially given that Shmee's merchandise sales I assume would be way way below someone like Cleefus/WhistlinDiesel.
Massive swing towards 'doing' channels rather than 'reviewing', I wonder if a lot of the Ukers risk getting left behind. The exception being Carwow who are absolutely smashing it but I think a lot of that is down to Mat Watsons charisma clicking with viewers.
He might have charisma but that accent, and the constant drag races, and the constant plugging of cearwaow just renders him unwatchable to my eyes. Massive swing towards 'doing' channels rather than 'reviewing', I wonder if a lot of the Ukers risk getting left behind. The exception being Carwow who are absolutely smashing it but I think a lot of that is down to Mat Watsons charisma clicking with viewers.

It makes me chuckle to call him a 'businessman' since he seems like he is just entertainer of kids. Albeit successful one but I don't think it will last. I think we will see a decline and people will move on and it will be old shmee.I once offered to help paul film and said I could bring my drone etc to get nice shots. I'm sure these channel owners keep an eye on how many new subs they are getting (and old viewers un-subbing - although I suspect a more useful metric is number of subscribers who no longer watch any videos) so know whether to stick with the same formula or evolve along with your existing viewers' tastes.honda_exige said:

I only really watch Cleetus out of that lot but I would say that if Cleetus wanted a large collection of Supercars then he could but he spends his money elsewhere, just spent £100k+ on some lighting for the Freedom Factory. And i wonder how much 'Mullett' has cost him Massive swing towards 'doing' channels rather than 'reviewing', I wonder if a lot of the Ukers risk getting left behind.
