I rate Jonny Smith really highly, and think he'd be a great guy to spend hours chatting about cars, but I find a lot of his videos a bit boring if I'm honest.
It feels like he's a great Youtuber (the hardest bit to nail) but he just can't often get hold of the right content...

You can see it in the viewing figures, two videos both released 2 months ago:

The Secret Mercedes Museum - 333k views
Mercedes Rally Car - 43k views (still not bad in the grand scheme of things I guess)
Both those videos are linked though, so the Rally car drive was a secondary video if you wanted to go full nerd and watch him drive it. However for most people (including me) the story and the pictures of it stationary were enough. He's covering off both casual viewer and the genuine enthusiasts, and the extra filming time is negligable as he is there anyway with his videographer.

Complete agree with this. Absolutely love Smith and Sniff but find a lot of TLBS videos to be a bit 'meh'. There are some really good ones but on the whole they are not 'must watch' in the same was that Harrys Garage is, and not that easy to dip in and out of like Hub Nut or Jayemm because of their format

Watched it earlier, that's some collection! Good opportunity for a drinking game while watching it; down a shot every time the bloke says 'absolutely'. You'll be steaming by half way through. hehe

Me too. That was a great touch. I wanted to see more of his SIM setup too rather than just shown in the background. The cave interested me more than the cars in this one tbh.

Thought it was just me. I want to like the videos more but find his delivery increasingly languid. If he spoke a bit quicker and edited a bit tighter he would be a lot more watchable.

I find, particularly with the review videos, he tends to repeat information numerous times which I personally find frustrating. Either it’s repeated so as to make sure that point makes the edit (and not edited out after the first instance) or assumed the audience needs it repeating because they aren’t listening properly.

Also, I don’t want to watch a review of the latest EV SUV that’s almost exactly the same as the last EV SUV that lasts for nearly 30 minutes - there cannot be that much unique things to fill that time.

I was an avid watcher of all of the Late Brake stuff to begin with but now find I am hardly watching any of the content for some reason.

I'm being a lot more selective of what LBS stuff I watch. I have no interest in EV's, particularly SUV's, so I skip those, although I will watch Harry review an EV BMW, as he isn't quite so evangelical about them. I'd be far more interested in his, and his viewers, project cars.

I think Smith and Sniff has a lot to answer for. I went decades of reading evo and automatically skipping Porter’s column as I just didn’t enjoy it.

After following S&S podcasts for a few years however I now really enjoy them.

Point is I enjoy S&S and it not only lets me search out more of their own stuff but they almost feel like acquaintances now due to the format of the show. So a couple of LBS videos that I really don’t have that much interest in (some Korean EV for instance) are still watchable as it’s my old “mate” Jonny from S&S on the telly again.

Colin McRae’s first ever rally car, a part of the car cave featured last week.

Another great video.

Just watched it and thought it was brilliant! Ian Gemmel can certainly steer a car, clearly lost none of it while chucking a Hillman avenger round a very narrow track with a bit of heel and toe thrown in!

Yes I'm same too.

I admire Jonny's eclectic tastes but lots of it doesn't interest me that much.

The garage walkrounds I'm not that bothered about, anything with supercars likewise.

The things I like are the electrification/restomodding of his personal stuff, the Jimny and how that's going in daily life. Reviews of things like the Honda e and ID BUZZ.

I did find the abandoned Lambo in Cumbria video interesting so hope there's a follow up to that.

The comparison to Harry's Garage is valid. I've missed one HG video (the electric BMW recently) and not enjoyed a couple more but he invariably hits the mark.

I am a big smith and sniff fan and all that, but only watch the late brake shows I find interesting.

I think Jonny and Richard should do something like the Whitehouse/ Mortimer fishing show except with cars.

No I don’t mean driving cars up rivers…

Road trip with good scenery, bit of banter, Jonny choosing stupid places to stay overnight, Richard choosing and interesting car for the trip. Maybe finish somewhere interesting like an event or club meet.

Interesting guy and car collection, surprised he is still driving with 12 points however.

Jonny needs to get some better car insurance so he can drive more cars. Presumably he just uses that shower who sponsor his channel.
