LOKI - Marvel's best TV Series To Date?
Discussion
As someone who on the whole doesnt get on with the marvel stuff, i really enjoyed wandavision watching it on a whim. As a standalone it was fine for me despite never seeing either Wanda or Vision before.
Trying Loki - What films do you think I should watch first or is it ok to watch on it's own?

Sounds like the poster only enjoys things which have a cast purely made up of white male characters.
i thought the same, i never even noticed what he noticed.I really REALLY hope he wasn’t referring to the the two black woman in prominent roles….

If you enjoyed WandaVision without watching the films, then I think you can enjoy Loki as a stand-alone show. Episode 1 covered most of his backstory. Trying Loki - What films do you think I should watch first or is it ok to watch on it's own?
But if you really want to, all 3 Thor films, Avengers Assemble and Avengers Infinity War.

All of them, or at least all the Thor's and main Avenger films. If you aren't that bothered then Infinity War and Endgame should be ok as Loki is set during Endgame and follows on nicely once you've seen the film's.

Really enjoying the show. The DB Cooper bit in the first one was ace.

Regarding pre-watching I’d say the minimum you should watch is Thor, Avengers Assemble, Ragnorok, Infinity War in that order although to be fair it’s done a pretty good job of filling int he blanks anyway.
Of course, flip side, if you’ve got Disney+ you might as well just plough through the whole MCU while you’re at it. They’re all (mostly) pretty good.
Based on the first two episodes this is at least better than the two series before it. I thought Wanda vision was self indulgent and turgid. Pretentious before reverting to a tedious cgi battle at the end.
Falcon and Winter Soldier was poorly written and directed as well. The female villain totally miscast and again, a low charisma actor inexplicably in a lead role.
The Disney Plus output has, for me, been very disappointing so far. The main factor being the weak writing. I hope the Hawkeye series will be better though it will need to overcome Jeremy Renner, another actor who lacks wattage compared to others in this franchise.

Loki is far better than FAWS or Wandavision so far.
It has a good balance between humour, story and action. It has moments of lightness that Wandavision tried for and missed, and FAWs didn't bother with.
Its two main leads actually have character.
I gave up on FAWS after 3 episodes, and fast-forwarded chunks of Wandavision - zero chance of either happening with Loki so far.

The whole concept of a TVA that didn't step in when Thanos was wiping out half the universe grates with me.
They can get around issues like that by simply saying it is part of the sacred timeline. The TVA isn't there to avoid apocalypse or help civilizations. Now I will certainly be interested to hear why the Eternals didn't bother getting involved, when it's time for their film.
Have to say I am not a fan so far.
The idea that the whole infinity saga; built up over a period of a decade an twenty odd movies was already mapped out by the time keepers.
The fact that these guys are so powerful they use infinity stones as paperweights just undermines the whole MCU.
on a more basic level i am finding it a little boring too. Much of the dialogue has a feeling of being improvised too (always a bad sign)

Yes but it's lazy plotting and can be trumped by an even greater "authority" being invoked at a later date...it has no end when you go down that route. Gadgetmac said:

But surely the point was that the TVA didn’t have to step in because the sacred timeline led to Thanos’s death and the reinstatement of those wiped out. Though that assumes that the TVA is actually backed by the three timekeepers, which I doubt…

Yes. It’s free. I have the time and I was interested enough in the source material to want to see how it ended. Not good though. My least favourite MCU films have been Dark World, Captain Marvel and Black Panther. I looked on Rotten Tomatoes and the difference in critic ratings to audience ratings reflected my own opinion.
