I know it's frowned upon to talk about where Youtubers get their money but watching Saving Salvage, he's a smallish Youtuber who transports cars as a 'proper' job. He's got various projects on the go, including a TVR, M2 and GT4, he owns an R8 and he's just taken delivery of a brand new £62k RS3 which even on PCP would be a chunky monthly.
Surely 128k subscribers and average views of 90k doesn't pay that well??
Depends really, you can check social blade for estimated income from ad revenue. There are quite a few youtubers who obviously say the income is from YouTube, but clearly it is just a vanity project to tell everyone how rich they are, ad nauseam .Surely 128k subscribers and average views of 90k doesn't pay that well??
Income wise, things like tiktok can be good, like 1k a day from donations, and even making videos for 15 quid a pop for birthdays can make you a millionaire.

The guy has a day-job (working for himself transporting cars around the country), has separate ads in his videos and turns a profit on a lot of the stuff he fixes up also. I like his videos, very knowledgeable and likeable guy.Surely 128k subscribers and average views of 90k doesn't pay that well??

Yeah, I said he has a full time job (and I also really like the channel), just still doesn't seem to add up to me (Social Blade suggests he might get £20k pa from YT). Maybe transporting cars is more lucrative than I thought!
or he has contacts in the trade?I prefer normal vloggers, the ones with real jobs, becuase much more grounded to reality. Even Harry Metcalfe being a journo helps. Just having a lot of money doesn't make you interesting.

Then add on the outside revenue (Y-food, etc), then add on the profits from all the cars he's fixed up and sold on over the years and some financing of the personal ones and it easily stacks up IMO. It's also possible that he's borrowed money (bank, friends, family) - it's a business at the end of the day, buy, fix-up, film, sell.
He has done a couple of videos where he mentions how he has financed stuff, lots of loans and credit cards I think. The R8 is financed.

How many times the max shown by Social Blade do you think the real max is?
Well DJ Audits (auditor) said he was making 8-10k per month, and looking that is around 3 million views. https://socialblade.com/youtube/c/djauditsLike I said views on their own don't mean a lot as some use ad block, then it is based on watching the whole video etc.
I think the biggest disruption will be the likes of tiktok, because these are short videos and people consume a lot more. Tiktok ad revenue, ads are very scare, is ste though, but gifts and shops are a good money earner on lives.

…..they attract a lot of sycophantic comments on their vlogs though!! Always wondered who’s these “ oh Tim you make it worth getting up in the morning “ people are and if they are actually ‘real’ people???I prefer normal vloggers, the ones with real jobs, becuase much more grounded to reality. ''Oh look here's my 30th car that I will drive once then stick in a garage, how great am I'''. When the 12 year old kids move on, I do wonder who watches all the videos.
Jay Leno, loads of money, personality in buckets, actually very interesting and the people he speaks with, it doesn't all become about himself, he is a pro, but you never watch him and think, what a massive bellend.

I understand that Social Blade's band can be very wrong.
yes it is becuase the revenue criteria is very wide. Gives you an idea though, even at max still would need supplementing. jayemm89 said:

That was interesting. I guess building a business is about risk, so using 0% credit cards can be shrewd if it works out. I assume he makes the purchase then transfers the balance to a 0% card as I've never been able to use a CC to buy a car (although maybe Copart let you). The R8 is financed.

Agree…. the likes of Leno, Harry & Jack from Number 27 are 100% more watchable….
Why do I get the feeling that Schmee and the rest of the car collecting fraternity still live with mummy and daddy….?
