I'd always seen John Travolta as Reacher, not helped by thinking The General's Daughter was based on a Reacher book.

I think he would have pulled it off in his prime. That look is pure Reacher. smile
Clint would have been perfect!

As an aside, I watched the trailer and it sort of looks cheap. It looks like that era of TV shows such as Stargate and the like.
hehe
Exactly my thoughts! The style of it too.

While reading the books I always thought the best Reacher would have been Ben Affleck after a diet and a few months at the gym.

Big fan of the Reacher books and even though he looks like a bit of a pretty boy to be Reacher, it's a massive improvement from teeny tiny Tom.

Looking forward to a TV series. If they get this right, it'll be excellent thumbup

Joe and Affleck are both good choices, I think Affleck edges on the brooding.
Tom Cruise was a top level brooder, Mel Gibson is even better, maybe the best still around, but again, he's 'small.'

I think Ray Stevenson would have been good, also Frank Grillo. I don't know what age Reacher is in the books though.

Grillo is about an inch taller than Cruise.

Cruise shouldn't have worked, but he was great in the film's to be honest. Totally believable... In a film world anyway.
This guy... We'll see. Reminds me of that Christopher chance series, can't remember the name but that sort of vibe...

Clint in his prime... What about his lad Scott Eastwood?

Aye, another shortarse. He's also 56, though you'd never believe it looking at him.

Boss level on Amazon worth a watch, and you also get crazy Mel. smile

Too young, not big enough, lacks his dads screen presence.

Love the books and the films despite Cruise issues mentioned above. Looking forward to this series.

I always pictured Woody Harrelson as Reacher.

Really need to catch up with the books. Been 5 years or so since I read a new one so assume that's 5 or 6 I'll have to catch up on?

Scott Eastwood is a total charisma vacuum. Nothing like his dad. There’s a reason he hasn’t broken through despite the nepotism rife in Hollywood. Thought he came across poorly when Joe Rogan interviewed him as well.

Alan Ritchson was great in Titans as I posted up thread. Watch him in that before casting judgement. Makes sense they want a bloke in good shape as they likely want to attract a female audience as well. If they get the fight choreography right (hire the team who did Banshee) and they get some proper screenplays, this could be great.

I actually think Cruise portrayed Reacher's personality well. Not wishing to seek attention, slightly dour, resigned to confrontation rather than embracing it, and in his fighting skills he managed to bring a sense of the unstoppable inevitability the books describe.

But as he's barely any taller than me, and Reacher is described as a man-mountain, you had to consider the films an alternative to the books. I liked the films though... the first one more than the second.

This guy doesn't fit the Reacher of the books either for me. He's too young, pretty and overtly muscular. And the humour is too much whereas the books has little or is more subtle. That said, if you consider it another "alternative" then I'm sure it'll be fun regardless. I am looking forward to it.
Same for me. I haven't read the books but I really enjoyed the first movie and thought Cruise did a good job.

I guess its cool to hate on him though.

Yes, he was very good in Titans and can do brooding. The fight scenes were good too. I've not read the books, so so think he'll do well.

Apparently Cruise got the movies made. No Cruise no movies.
Yes. He was the producer, his production company has the rights to make the films. There wasn't any casting, he picked himself.

I think the films are not bad. Sure he doesn't have the physical stature of the character, but he does have the stop at nothing attitude, and menacing presence.

They aren't the best written books in the world but enjoyable in a relaxing by the beach sort of way, and I always pictured Reacher as a younger Daniel Craig look a like.

Teeny Tiny Tom Cruise certainly wasn't
