Any thoughts on Ray Liotta? I really rate him. Not many lead roles but plenty of supporting ones. I loved No Escape, one of my favourite films in my teens.
Have you seen The Many Saints of Newark? He plays two brothers, one is a rotten to the core mafia guy, the other an intensely moral prisoner.
What a disappointment that film was!!

Goodfellas... bounce
( Rated as his best film... & the only film that I remember him from.)

Coincidentally I recently watched a YouTube video on him that claimed every single movie he was in either won, or was nominated for, the best picture Oscar.

A great range and played very different characters. Probably one of the best examples of an actor who could have had a much longer, and even more illustrious career if he hadn't been taken so soon.
Yep...he did just five films, every single one of which was nominated for best picture, and three of which won that award. Al Pacino speaks very highly of his craft. I have no doubt he would be considered one of the greats had he lived.
Didn't De Niro pay for his healthcare or something as he wanted him in The Deer Hunter? Either way, hell of an actor and a hell of a resume.
Meryl Streep also threatened to quit the film when the producers wanted Cazale removed because of his illness.

Sam Rockwell.
Came here to nominate him. Solid actor, and has done well, but deserves more leads for sure.

Also, I'll nominate Jake Busey, son of Gary. He was hilarious in Starship Troopers, and would have done well in a lot of other Sci Fi comedy roles.

I'm a big Sharpe fan I think Sean Bean should have done well, buy never really hot it big.
Sean Bean played Sean Bean in everything he appeared in, including the Yorkshire Tea ads. Didn't see much evidence of any breadth ( or depth for that matter.)

And didn’t he moan that he got killed off in a lot of his films.
(Surely he read the script before accepting the part).

Roger Lloyd-Pack

Forever Trigger, but a really good supporting actor. He played Mendel the ex-Special Branch man in the Gary Oldman Tinker, Tailor. He also played a very menacing hitman in something that I can't find any mention of.

Trigger played Ramos the hitman in The Professionals. 'Long Shot' was the episode.

I knew that he was also an accomplished stage actor too...
But his stage, film & TV work is pretty impressive..
Of course his teenage Daughter Emily is famous for repeatedly shouting
“Up yer bum” in ‘Wish you were here’.

Although he 'made it', I always thought that Joseph Fiennes was a better actor than his brother Ralf, who is much better known/more successful.

Lewis Collins. Who was Bodie in the Professionals and in Who Dares Wins.
Also, famously, lost out on playing Bond due to being 'too aggressive' in his audition.
I heard he kept missing the hat stand in Moneypenny's office.
Bit wooden I think.

Perhaps they decided part way through to kill him off. Frequently.

I thought Tatum O'Neill would have been higher profile over the years based purely on her performance, when still a child, in Paper Moon, I though she was brilliant

My wife and I reckon being a decent supporting actor is the way to a long and lucrative career. 'Stars' come and go, and they risk over-exposure.

Lots of supporting actors never seem to be out of work.
Sam Kydd, sadly no longer with us, is the epitome of this.
Big fan of Sam Kydd, he was also an accomplished trombone player. There are many supporting actors of his era who were excellent in their roles, and essential, but who very few people, including me, could name.

I'd throw Paul Whitehouse into the mix.

Apparently not just good at comedy but a very talented actor.
