An assassin with a family has some sort of motivation to make the giant score rather than being a killing machine simply because.

But this hasn't really done a very good job of straddling both parts of his life.

Not really sure how you'd do it fully convincingly.
I agree, it doesn’t quite work but it’s reasonable viewing through the dark nights and the locations are interesting.

I’m always amused by some of the ‘hole in plot’ type comments that this place comes up with, especially from the ‘would be assassins’, they should get a special mention on the ‘misfits, dads army’ thread.

It’s pretty poor with major plot holes and head scratchers, lots of silly things he does for a so called top pro assassin.

For me, I’d have gained access to the theatre as he did and put a few small explosives under a seat near the front. Then I’d have worn a suit similar to what the security team was wearing. Hang around out front, remotely set off the explosives, and join onto the security team escorting the target out in all the confusion, and assassinate him then, lot less hassle.

Strangely I’ll keep watching it thought, I’ve not got much else to watch currently and I’ve got this far…
That sort of reads like maybe you’d like to think you could have been a top pro assassin…
I’m definitely not, honest, though if I was I might consider usingscuba gear and a spear gun to kill the target on their regular swim only protected by a drone, instead of having to gain access to a highly secure building, but again, this is all hypothetical and I’ve hardly killed anyone that way in real life.

True… bourne makes no mistakes. Bond makes the odd one, yet for the cash he charges jackal seems a bit more mr bean in that bond spoof..

Just started watching and 2 episodes in.

Is this made by the same team that made theSubmarine programme, same almighty mistakes - e.g. ep 1 you don’t crash a meeting you haven’t been invited to in those environments, if you try everyone goes quiet and you are asked to leave. Seen it happen.

I’m really enjoying it.
Love all the nods to the book and original movie.
The book and film were joined-up.

Just what a MI6 person is doing chasing around Croatia and Vienna to protect a Musk character from a person with multiple international identities is way beyond the bounds of probability.

The original it was the French DGSE who were doing the chasing because he was after the French President.

Ep 8 out now. Decent plot filler episode with the usual plot holes. Be interesting how they conclude this; although some earlier posts have hinted at something that might happen... it does look increasingly lIkely now IMO.

Just watched episode 8 and enjoyed it, although I did reach for my phone when the London domestic stuff was going on.

He really is cold!

Yeah, the missus suggested it too.

Given that it's been trailed that a second series is on the cards, my money is on him doing the Spanish family in (let's face it the mother in law deserves it) and then disappearing again with the law after him ( hopefully he'll have also killed the wonderfully wooden MI5 agent as well but sadly I think she'll be back too)

Anyone else notice the remarkable resemblance between Eddie Redmayne & Fernando Torres.

Yes I was wondering that, will it be by accident or will he be a loose ent that needs tieing up.

His spotter was 'Ian Gallagher' who was in Shameless many years ago. Blast from the past as I havent seen the actor in anything else since.

Episode 8 - nothing to do with the book, just a load of padding.

My guess is that Charles Dance is going to be pursuing him with more success than the MI6 woman.

Some thoughts..

Did the spotter live long enough to get some sort of official history recorded of what Duggan did to his crew ?

Wifey knows, is she going to run with him ? brother in law is toast for sure, there's no way he's going to keep his mouth shut.

I don't see why the Dance character will be after him, other than to actually finish the job. It only gets sketchy if the link woman threatens to unmask either side of the transaction. The only way she might survive is to kill the target herself.

Or does it go down the revenge route ? link woman takes the wife hostage to flush him out, he attempts to rescue, wife is killed, series 2 is all about his revenge.

Bianca doesn't get her man but the whole conspiracy by the Dance character comes out and thats all she gets from it.

Was the original Jackal character "gay for pay".. or is this something else that has been shoehorned in?

Just seemed a bit abrupt to me... maybe I'm not modern enough these days..

In the film, Edward Fox asks a Paris cabbie to take him to a Turkish bath, the implication (I wouldn't know) being that it's a typical gay pick-up joint. Having just killed a woman post-shag, this was to avoid the coppers. EF picks up Anton Rogers and goes back to his place; no physical contact is shown, not even when EF kills him in the kitchen.

The book has the Jackal being more outrageous, in a tight T-shirt and make-up, which makes the coppers recoil in disgust.

Cheers for that, good to know..

Tight t-shirt and make up is a bit much, one of the other surely! hehe

Also in the movie with Bruce Willis the jackal picks up a guy in a bar and goes back to his place, kills him when his picture appears on tv

It's not Anton Rogers he picks up, but David Kernan. Rogers played one of the coppers ...
